Summary

We are looking for a senior consultant to help stabilize and improve our Jet Analytics / Jet Reports / SQL Server / SSAS cube environment connected to a heavily customized Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2016 system. Our current cube environment is unreliable and periodically goes down or fails to refresh properly. We need someone who can diagnose the root cause, stabilize the environment, improve cube refresh reliability, and advise whether parts of the current cube should be repaired, refactored, or rebuilt. This is not a basic Jet Reports report-writing project. This is also not a general Power BI dashboard project. We need someone with hands-on technical experience across Jet Analytics, Jet Data Manager, SQL Server, SSAS / OLAP cubes, data warehouse design, and Dynamics NAV data structures. Current Environment: - Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2016 - Heavily customized NAV environment - LS Retail embedded - Jet Reports / Jet Analytics - SQL Server - SSAS / OLAP cube environment - Reporting environment used for business visibility and operational reporting Primary Goals: - Determine why the cube environment is unstable. - Stabilize Jet Analytics / Jet Data Manager processing. - Improve SQL Server / SSAS cube refresh reliability. - Review and improve job scheduling, processing sequence, and monitoring. - Identify whether the current cube should be repaired, refactored, or partially rebuilt. - Establish a longer-term support relationship if the fit is strong. Responsibilities: - Review the current Jet Analytics / Jet Reports configuration. - Review Jet Data Manager projects, execution packages, and dependencies. - Review SQL Server databases, SQL Server Agent jobs, job schedules, and job history. - Review SSAS cube structure, processing history, refresh failures, and performance indicators. - Analyze relevant SQL Server logs, SSAS logs, Windows event logs, and application errors. - Identify failure points causing the cube to go down or fail refreshes. - Diagnose whether issues are related to Jet, SQL Server, SSAS, infrastructure, data quality, permissions, resource constraints, or cube design. - Recommend stabilization steps. - Implement approved fixes where appropriate. - Improve monitoring and alerting for cube refresh failures. - Tune SQL Server / SSAS performance where appropriate. - Review data warehouse and dimensional model design. - Validate cube outputs against Dynamics NAV source data where needed. - Document findings, support procedures, and recovery steps. - Provide knowledge transfer to our internal IT team. Required Experience: - Hands-on experience with Jet Analytics and/or Jet Data Manager. - Experience with Jet Reports using cube-based reporting. - Strong Microsoft SQL Server experience. - Strong SSAS / OLAP cube experience. - Experience troubleshooting cube processing failures. - Experience with SQL Server Agent jobs, ETL scheduling, and refresh automation. - Experience with data warehouse design and dimensional modeling. - Experience working with Microsoft Dynamics NAV / Navision data structures. - Ability to troubleshoot across application, database, cube, and infrastructure layers. - Ability to work independently and explain findings clearly. Preferred Experience: - Dynamics NAV 2016 experience. - LS Retail experience. - Experience with heavily customized NAV environments. - Retail, hospitality, museum, zoo, aquarium, resort, or destination retail reporting experience. - Power BI experience against SSAS or cube-based sources. - Experience stabilizing legacy BI environments. - Experience creating monitoring, alerting, and operational runbooks. - Experience providing ongoing fractional support after an initial assessment. Initial Engagement: We would like to begin with a paid diagnostic / health-check engagement. Expected initial deliverables: - Current-state architecture review. - Root-cause analysis of cube instability. - Review of Jet Analytics / Jet Data Manager configuration. - Review of SQL Server / SSAS jobs, logs, schedules, and processing history. - Identification of major failure points and risks. - Recommended stabilization plan. - Estimate for remediation and ongoing support. Potential Ongoing Work: If the initial engagement is successful, we may continue with: - Stabilization project work. - Cube refactoring or rebuild support. - Monitoring and alerting improvements. - Ongoing fractional support. - Monthly health checks. - Report/cube enhancement support. - Knowledge transfer and documentation. How We Like to Work: - We prefer clear communication and practical recommendations. - We value root-cause analysis over temporary fixes. - We are comfortable starting with a focused diagnostic before committing to a larger engagement. - We prefer a consultant who can explain findings clearly to both technical and business stakeholders. - We want documentation and knowledge transfer, not a black-box support relationship. - We are looking to build a longer-term working relationship with the right person. Preferred Time Zones: Pacific or Mountain Time preferred due to IT team coverage in California and Utah. U.S.-based candidates in other time zones may still be considered if they can regularly support Pacific/Mountain business hours. Rate: Open to consultant's proposed rate based on experience. The right fit will have hands-on experience with Jet Analytics / Jet Data Manager, SQL Server, SSAS / OLAP cubes, and Dynamics NAV. Screening Questions: Please answer these in your response. 1. Have you worked with NAV 2016 or older NAV environments? 6. Have you worked with LS Retail or retail ERP environments? 7. What logs or tools would you review first when a Jet / SSAS cube keeps failing or going down? 8. How would you determine whether the issue is Jet-related, SQL Server-related, SSAS-related, data-related, or infrastructure-related? 9. What is your hourly rate for this type of work, and would you recommend starting with an hourly diagnostic or a fixed-price health check? 10. Are you open to a longer-term fractional support relationship after the initial diagnostic? 11. Please describe one similar BI/cube/reporting reliability issue you have resolved. Important: Please do not apply if your experience is limited to basic Jet Reports report writing or Power BI dashboard development. This role requires backend Jet Analytics, SQL Server, SSAS, cube processing, and Dynamics NAV troubleshooting experience.
