Senior Media Relations Freelancer | Consumer Technology, Clean Energy & Utilities Emporia Energy is looking for an experienced freelance media relations professional to help us generate earned media around some of the biggest initiatives in home energy. Over the next year, we’ll be launching new products and programs spanning home batteries, virtual power plants, utility partnerships, EV charging, and home energy management. Some stories belong in consumer technology publications. Others belong in energy, utility, business, and climate media. Our marketing team develops the strategy, messaging, content, and launch plans. We’re looking for someone who knows how to build relationships with reporters, earn product reviews, secure feature stories, and help us stay in front of the conversations that matter. What you’ll do * Build relationships with reporters, editors, analysts, and reviewers. * Secure product reviews for our consumer hardware. * Pitch stories around home batteries, utilities, virtual power plants, and the future of home energy. * Coordinate media briefings, product review programs, embargoes, and executive interviews. * Identify timely earned media opportunities tied to energy, technology, and policy. * Support thought leadership opportunities for our executive team. * Stay engaged with reporters before, during, and after major announcements to build long-term relationships. What we’re looking for You have a strong network of media relationships and a track record of earning coverage in one or more of these areas: Consumer Technology * Wirecutter * CNET * Tom’s Guide * PCMag * The Verge * Reviewed EV & Smart Home * Electrek * InsideEVs * Car and Driver * MotorTrend * Smart home and YouTube reviewers Energy & Utilities * Utility Dive * Canary Media * Heatmap * POWER Magazine * PV Magazine * Energy Storage News * Solar Builder * T&D World Business & Climate * Bloomberg Green * Business Insider * Fortune * Fast Company * Climate and infrastructure reporters You don’t need relationships with every outlet, but you should have an established network and know how to build new relationships quickly. Ideal background * 7+ years of media relations experience. * Experience representing technology, hardware, energy, climate, or utility companies. * A strong history of securing earned media and product reviews. * Comfortable working with executive and legal review processes. * Organized, persistent, and proactive. * Independent freelancer or consultant. Engagement This is a project-based engagement supporting several major launches beginning this fall, with the opportunity for an ongoing relationship. Remote within the U.S. is preferred. An NDA will be required before confidential program information is shared.
