ABOUT US We are a Chilean engineering office specialized in geotechnical, structural, hydraulic and hydrogeological studies for the mining industry. Over 12 years of experience in mining, more than 530 projects delivered across 13 regions of Chile, and a senior team with 185+ years of combined experience. We work with large, medium and small-scale mining, from conceptual studies through detailed engineering and on-site support, focused on constructability, operational safety, regulatory compliance and project profitability. We hold registrations with MOP, MINVU, INN and ChileCompra, and operate under ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001 standards. We are expanding our network of collaborating engineers to support specific technical assignments, under an hourly contract through Upwork. HOW WE WORK (please read before applying) - The contract is hourly within Upwork, with time logged through the platform's Time Tracker. We do not work outside Upwork. - Before each assignment we agree in writing on: scope, deliverable, input information and an estimated hours cap. If the work exceeds the estimate, we discuss and approve it before continuing. - All communication, sharing of background documents and delivery of results happens through the platform's channels. - We start with a first paid assignment of 5 to 8 hours, paid from the first hour. We do not request free tests. - If the result is good, we move to an ongoing flow of assignments with stable weekly hours. - A short coordination call takes place at the start of each assignment. OUR METHODOLOGY Understand - Characterize - Analyze - Design - Validate - Implement - Monitor. We look for engineers who work this way: who characterize before modeling, validate before delivering, and state their assumptions in writing. TECHNICAL SCOPE OF ASSIGNMENTS Depending on your specialty, you will participate in one or more of these areas: 1. GEOTECHNICS AND SOIL MECHANICS FOR MINING WORKS - Soil mechanics studies for roads, platforms, workshops, plants, tanks and conveyor belts. - Definition of geotechnical design parameters and stratigraphic characterization. - Bearing capacity and settlements in shallow and deep foundations. - Assessment of expansiveness, collapsibility and liquefaction. - Ground improvement design: replacement, compaction, preloading, geosynthetics, columns, chemical stabilization. - Geotechnical assessments and diagnostics. 2. UNDERGROUND GEOMECHANICS - Support design for tunnels, chambers and mining galleries. - Rock bolts, welded mesh, shotcrete and steel fibers. - Geomechanical classification RMR / Q / GSI and back-analysis. - 2D/3D numerical modeling in PLAXIS, FLAC, RS2 and UnWedge. - Convergence control, instrumentation and stability monitoring. - Cemented backfill design. 3. SLOPE, DUMP AND CUT STABILITY - Stability analysis in soil and rock: circular, planar, wedge and toppling failures. - Static, saturated and pseudo-static scenarios. - Assessment of waste dumps and stockpiles: geometry, foundation, drainage and disposal sequence. - Reprofiling, berms and surface/deep drainage design. - Design of mesh, bolts, shotcrete and rockfall barriers. - Displacement monitoring: prisms, GNSS, LiDAR, inclinometers and extensometers. 4. TAILINGS DAMS AND DEPOSITS - Design of tailings dams, reservoirs and filtered/thickened tailings deposits. - Leach pads, ROM and waste dumps. - Static and pseudo-static stability analysis and design safety factors. - Drainage, lining and geotechnical monitoring systems. - Compliance with DS No. 248 SERNAGEOMIN and GISTM guidelines. 5. STRUCTURES AND SEISMIC DESIGN FOR MINING FACILITIES - Structural design in steel, reinforced and prestressed concrete. - Industrial buildings, crushing, milling, conveyors and stockpiles. - Foundations of vibrating equipment: mills, screens and crushers. - Nonlinear seismic analysis and verification under NCh2369, NCh433 and NCh430. - Structural reinforcement and rehabilitation of existing facilities. 6. HYDROLOGY, HYDROGEOLOGY AND WATER MANAGEMENT - Surface hydrology, floods and IDF curves (HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS). - 3D hydrogeological models and open-pit dewatering (MODFLOW, FEFLOW). - Separation and management of contact and non-contact water. - Design of crown channels, road drainage, sedimentation ponds and erosion control. - Water balances, recovery and reuse of process water. - DGA sectoral permits. 7. RETAINING WALLS AND STABILIZATION WORKS - High reinforced-concrete cantilever walls. - MSE walls (mechanically stabilized earth): internal, external and global stability. - Reinforced soil with geogrids, gabions and gravity walls. - Pile and micropile walls, post-tensioned anchors and soil nailing. - Seismic analysis of retaining structures and drainage design. 8. MINING ROADS, PLATFORMS AND EARTHWORKS - Geotechnical design of roads for heavy equipment. - Access, ramps, industrial platforms and embankments. - Failure analysis: rutting, fines pumping, loss of bearing capacity. - Borrow pits: prospecting, quantity estimation, USCS/AASHTO classification and exploitation plan. - Compaction control and volume reconciliation. 9. TECHNICAL INSPECTION AND ON-SITE SUPPORT - Specialized technical inspection in structures, geotechnics and hydraulics. - Foundation seal acceptance and compaction control. - Geotechnical instrumentation: piezometers, inclinometers, extensometers. - Technical audits and assessments for mine closure. PROJECT STAGES WE WORK ON - Conceptual engineering: design basis and criteria, technical alternatives, CAPEX +/-30%, risk identification. - Basic engineering: calculation reports, general drawings, technical specifications, preliminary MTO. - Detailed engineering: IFC drawings, construction details, BIM models, final quantities. - Construction: RFI responses, field reviews, change management, as-built drawings. MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS - Civil Engineering degree (geotechnical, structural, hydraulic or mining) or Civil Mining Engineer. - Minimum 5 years of experience on real projects, preferably with exposure to mining operations. - Advanced command of at least two tools, according to your specialty: - Geotechnics and geomechanics: PLAXIS 2D/3D, FLAC, RS2/RS3, Slide, UnWedge, GeoStudio, Settle3, Dips. - Structures: SAP2000, ETABS, SAFE, Robot, Tekla, IDEA StatiCa. - Hydraulics and hydrogeology: HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, MODFLOW, FEFLOW, SWMM. - Field and modeling: AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Revit, Navisworks, Leapfrog, LiDAR/photogrammetry processing. - Ability to write professional calculation reports in Spanish, self-contained and traceable. - Judgment to work with incomplete information, stating assumptions explicitly. - Minimum availability of 10 hours per week and response within 24 business hours. - Willingness to work with the Upwork time tracker active. NICE TO HAVE - Chilean standards: NCh433, NCh2369, NCh430, DS61, DS No. 248 SERNAGEOMIN, MOP Highway Manual. - International standards: Eurocode 7, AASHTO, FHWA, ASTM, ACI 318, AISC 360, ITA-AITES, GISTM, Hoek-Brown. - Experience in copper, gold or lithium mining, open-pit or underground. - Experience in large-scale urban or mining underground works. - BIM coordination (Revit, Navisworks, Civil 3D). - Automation and post-processing with Python. - Technical English (reading and writing). MODALITY AND BUDGET - 100% remote, hourly contract on Upwork. - We prefer time-zone overlap with Chile (UTC-3/-4), but we are flexible if communication flows well. - Hourly rate according to proven specialization. GEOTECNIA Y MECANICA DE SUELOS PARA OBRAS MINERAS - Estudios de mecanica de suelos para caminos, plataformas, talleres, plantas, estanques y correas transportadoras. - Definicion de parametros geotecnicos de diseno y caracterizacion estratigrafica. - Capacidad de soporte y asentamientos en fundaciones superficiales y profundas. - Evaluacion de expansividad, colapsabilidad y licuacion. - Diseno de mejoramientos de terreno: reemplazo, compactacion, precarga, geosinteticos, columnas, estabilizacion quimica. - Peritajes y diagnosticos geotecnicos. 2. GEOMECANICA SUBTERRANEA - Diseno de sostenimiento para tuneles, camaras y galerias mineras. - Pernos de anclaje, malla electrosoldada, shotcrete y fibras de acero. - Clasificacion geomecanica RMR / Q / GSI y back-analysis. - Modelacion numerica 2D/3D en PLAXIS, FLAC, RS2 y UnWedge. - Control de convergencias, instrumentacion y monitoreo de estabilidad. - Diseno de backfill cementado. 3. ESTABILIDAD DE TALUDES, BOTADEROS Y CORTES - Analisis de estabilidad en suelo y en roca: fallas circulares, planares, cunas y volcamiento. - Escenarios estatico, saturado y pseudoestatico. - Evaluacion de botaderos y depositos de esteriles: geometria, fundacion, drenaje y secuencia de disposicion. - Diseno de reperfilamiento, bermas y drenaje superficial y profundo. - Diseno de mallas, pernos, shotcrete y barreras contra caida de rocas. - Monitoreo de desplazamientos: prismas, GNSS, LiDAR, inclinometros y extensometros. 4. TRANQUES DE RELAVES Y DEPOSITOS - Diseno de tranques, embalses y depositos de relaves filtrados y espesados. - Pilas de lixiviacion, ROM y botaderos de esteril. - Analisis de estabilidad estatica y pseudoestatica, y factores de seguridad de diseno. - Sistemas de drenaje, impermeabilizacion y monitoreo geotecnico. - Cumplimiento DS N248 SERNAGEOMIN y lineamientos GISTM. 5. ESTRUCTURAS Y DISENO SISMICO PARA INSTALACIONES MINERAS - Diseno estructural en acero, hormigon armado y pretensado. - Naves industriales, chancado, molienda, correas y stockpiles. - Fundaciones de equipos vibratorios: molinos, harneros y chancadores. - Analisis sismico no lineal y verificacion bajo NCh2369, NCh433 y NCh430. - Refuerzo y rehabilitacion estructural de instalaciones existentes. 6. HIDROLOGIA, HIDROGEOLOGIA Y MANEJO DE AGUAS - Hidrologia superficial, crecidas y curvas IDF (HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS). - Modelos hidrogeologicos 3D y dewatering de rajo (MODFLOW, FEFLOW). - Separacion y manejo de aguas de contacto y no contacto. - Diseno de canales de coronacion, drenaje de caminos, piscinas de sedimentacion y control de erosion. - Balances hidricos, recuperacion y reuso de agua de proceso. - Permisos sectoriales DGA. 7. MUROS DE CONTENCION Y OBRAS DE ESTABILIZACION - Muros cantilever de hormigon armado de gran altura. - Muros TEM (tierra estabilizada mecanicamente): estabilidad interna, externa y global. - Suelo reforzado con geogrillas, gaviones y muros de gravedad. - Pantallas de pilotes y micropilotes, anclajes postensados y soil nailing. - Analisis sismico de estructuras de contencion y diseno de drenaje. 8. CAMINOS MINEROS, PLATAFORMAS Y MOVIMIENTOS DE TIERRA - Diseno geotecnico de caminos para equipos pesados. - Accesos, rampas, plataformas industriales y terraplenes. - Analisis de fallas: ahuellamiento, bombeo de finos, perdida de capacidad portante. - Emprestitos: prospeccion, cubicacion, clasificacion SUCS/AASHTO y plan de explotacion. - Control de compactacion y conciliacion de volumenes. 9. INSPECCION TECNICA Y SOPORTE EN OBRA - ITO especializada en estructuras, geotecnia e hidraulica. - Recepcion de sellos de fundacion y control de compactacion. - Instrumentacion geotecnica: piezometros, inclinometros, extensometros. - Auditorias tecnicas y peritajes para cierre de faenas. ETAPAS EN LAS QUE TRABAJAMOS - Ingenieria conceptual: bases y criterios de diseno, alternativas tecnicas, CAPEX +/-30%, identificacion de riesgos. - Ingenieria basica: memorias de calculo, planos generales, especificaciones tecnicas, MTO preliminar. - Ingenieria de detalle: planos IFC, detalles constructivos, modelos BIM, cubicaciones definitivas. - Construccion: respuestas a RFI, revisiones de terreno, gestion de cambios, planos as-built.
