Summary

Senior Transactional Paralegal — Legal-Tech Workbooks and Source Research I am an attorney building a confidential legal-tech product for business owners and nonprofits. I am looking for an experienced transactional paralegal or legal-operations professional to help create structured product workbooks and research official government sources. This is a remote contractor role for approximately 15 to 20 hours per week. The initial engagement is expected to be about 40 to 60 hours, with strong potential for ongoing work. You must be available to start this week. The work Most assignments will begin with an approved section brief, a detailed workbook template, related materials, and a structured prompt. You will be expected to produce a complete first pass, identify unresolved issues, and flag decisions rather than inventing legal or product rules. You will: create and revise structured Excel or Google Sheets workbooks; organize questions, answer choices, stored values, conditions, routing information, signals, report language, and test expectations; produce complete first-pass workbooks using the approved templates and source materials; compare new workbooks against related sections and identify inconsistent terminology, duplicated questions, conflicting stored values, missing signal owners, unsupported routing, or other places where a developer would otherwise have to guess; consolidate reviewer feedback into a clear disposition list showing proposed changes, unresolved issues, and decisions requiring my review; research statutes, regulations, agency guidance, official forms, filing pages, and other official government sources; create structured source records identifying the issuing authority, jurisdiction, direct official link, date checked, exact proposition supported, limitations, and refresh risk; distinguish official or primary sources from law-firm articles, vendor materials, general summaries, and other secondary sources; maintain one clearly identified current version, a complete changelog, clean source records, and an archive of superseded versions. This role is more structured and systems-oriented than writing-oriented. Precision, completeness, consistency, and the ability to identify missing dependencies matter more than polished prose. You will not write code, provide legal advice, approve legal conclusions, or make final legal or product decisions. When something requires legal or product judgment, you will flag it clearly and I will decide. Ideal background At least four years of relevant experience is strongly preferred. The strongest candidates will have experience in one or more of the following: corporate or transactional paralegal work; in-house legal support; legal operations; compliance; due diligence; commercial contracts; corporate records and governance; legal research; legal knowledge management; legal-tech implementation; structured-content products such as diagnostics, decision trees, guided workflows, intake systems, document automation, or product specifications. A JD is not required. You should be: highly skilled with Excel or Google Sheets; exceptionally organized; strong at official-source research; comfortable working with detailed templates, logic, IDs, conditions, and dependencies; able to compare multiple documents and identify inconsistencies; comfortable using AI tools while independently checking their work; willing to stop and flag an issue rather than invent a plausible answer; able to explain a complicated issue clearly and briefly. Experience with legal-tech workflows, decision trees, document automation, intake logic, or structured legal content is especially valuable. How to apply Begin your proposal with the words Source of Truth and briefly answer the following: What corporate, transactional, compliance, legal-operations, or legal-research work have you handled? What experience do you have building or managing detailed Excel or Google Sheets workbooks? What experience do you have researching statutes, regulations, agency guidance, official forms, filing pages, or other government sources? Which AI tools do you use in your work? For each one, describe a specific task, why you selected that tool, what could have gone wrong, and how you verified the result. Do not claim proficiency you cannot explain. Describe a time you found an inconsistency, missing dependency, or structural problem in a complex document, spreadsheet, or workflow. What did you do? What is your hourly rate, and can you start this week? During the interview, shortlisted candidates will be asked to describe a specific task they completed using one or more AI tools, explain why they chose that tool, identify what could have gone wrong, and walk through how they verified the output. Candidates may also be given a short sample task and asked to explain how they would approach it. All communication must remain through Upwork. Anyone who emails me directly, contacts my business, or attempts to connect with me on LinkedIn regarding this position will be automatically disqualified. Generic proposals will not be considered. Finalists may be asked to complete a short paid work sample.
