Senior Sports Betting Automation Engineer / Quant Developer
Worldwide
## Overview We are building and operating a real-time sports betting arbitrage system across multiple sportsbooks. We are looking for a senior engineer who can work with us full-time and take hands-on ownership of the system’s reliability, speed, execution quality, and continued expansion. This is not a basic web scraping position. We already have multiple sportsbook integrations and automated betting systems running in production. We need someone who can monitor these systems, understand why opportunities or bets are being missed, identify bottlenecks quickly, and implement reliable solutions. You will work closely with the CTO every day, with frequent communication and clear daily updates. ## What You Will Be Responsible For Your primary responsibility will be ensuring that our arbitrage system is always running, identifying opportunities as quickly as possible, and placing both sides of each bet with minimal delay and execution risk. You will investigate issues such as: * Why an arbitrage opportunity was detected but not executed * Why one side of a bet was placed and the other side failed * Incorrect odds normalization or arbitrage calculations * Delays when reading odds from sportsbook websites * Delays between detecting an opportunity and placing the bets * Odds or lines changing before execution * Incorrect market, team, event, or selection matching * Sportsbook limits, rejected bets, suspended markets, and balance issues * Selenium or Chrome sessions freezing, crashing, expiring, or losing authentication * CPU, memory, browser, proxy, queue, Redis, and server performance problems * Differences between displayed odds and the final accepted bet slip odds The goal is to determine the fastest and most reliable way to: 1. Read prices from multiple sportsbooks simultaneously 2. Normalize and compare markets correctly 3. Detect valid arbitrage opportunities 4. Calculate the correct stakes 5. Validate that the opportunity still exists 6. Submit both bets immediately 7. Confirm that both bets were successfully accepted 8. Safely handle partial fills, rejections, line changes, and system failures ## Current System We currently monitor approximately eight sportsbook websites simultaneously and place bets across multiple sports. The system uses or may use: * Python and Node.js * Selenium, Playwright, and ChromeDriver * AWS EC2 * Redis and queues * MySQL or PostgreSQL * Docker * Residential proxy providers * Browser profiles and persistent sessions * Real-time odds feeds, APIs, DOM readers, and WebSockets * Cursor and Claude for AI-assisted development ## Market Expansion Roadmap The system currently needs to expand across more sportsbooks, sports, and market combinations. Our roadmap includes: ### Sportsbook Coverage * Expand from approximately 8 sportsbooks to 20 or more * Run multiple sportsbook sessions concurrently * Maintain reliable authenticated sessions across all books * Monitor sportsbook health, balances, limits, and execution performance ### Market Coverage * Full-game moneylines across all supported sports * Full-game spreads * Full-game totals * First-half moneylines * First-half spreads * First-half totals ### Equivalent and Related Market Arbitrage * Spread-to-moneyline equivalents * Arbitrage between different spread values * Arbitrage between different total values * First-half spread-to-moneyline equivalents * Arbitrage between different first-half spread values * Arbitrage between different first-half total values The engineer should understand that these are not always direct price comparisons. Some opportunities require probability conversion, line equivalency calculations, push handling, sport-specific rules, and accurate settlement modeling. ## Core Responsibilities ### Production Monitoring and Reliability * Monitor all running sportsbook readers and betting executors * Ensure Chrome and browser automation sessions remain active * Detect and restart failed or unhealthy workers automatically * Monitor CPU, memory, disk, Redis, queues, proxy health, and browser usage * Build alerts for crashes, session expiration, stale odds, delayed execution, and failed bets * Improve logging, metrics, dashboards, and incident reporting * Create fail-safe and recovery mechanisms * Perform root-cause analysis for every important missed or failed bet ### Low-Latency Odds Collection * Optimize how odds are collected from sportsbook websites * Compare DOM reading, internal APIs, WebSockets, network requests, and external odds feeds * Reduce unnecessary browser actions and polling delays * Detect stale or suspended markets * Maintain accurate event and market mappings across sportsbooks * Measure latency from sportsbook update to internal detection ### Arbitrage and Quantitative Logic * Normalize decimal, American, and fractional odds * Calculate implied probabilities and remove vig where required * Calculate arbitrage percentages and stake allocations * Validate guaranteed profit after fees, limits, rounding, and rule differences * Handle pushes, void rules, overtime rules, dead heats, and sport-specific settlement rules * Compare related markets using mathematically valid equivalencies * Prevent false arbitrage opportunities caused by incorrect mappings or delayed data * Understand line movement, expected value, bankroll exposure, and execution risk ### Automated Bet Execution * Optimize bet placement speed and reliability * Validate sportsbook, event, market, selection, line, and price before submission * Confirm accepted odds and accepted stake after submission * Handle price changes, maximum stake limits, rejected bets, and suspended markets * Track available balances and sportsbook exposure * Build logic for partial execution when only one side is accepted * Maintain detailed records of every detected opportunity and execution attempt ### Browser Automation and Session Management * Build and maintain Selenium or Playwright automation * Manage cookies, local storage, authentication, and persistent browser profiles * Maintain long-running Chrome sessions * Identify memory leaks and unstable browser processes * Improve interaction reliability across dynamic sportsbook interfaces * Work with residential proxy networks and session-based routing * Handle rate limits, browser challenges, and other access restrictions in a reliable and compliant manner ## Required Experience The ideal candidate has strong professional experience with: * Python or Node.js * Selenium, Playwright, Puppeteer, or ChromeDriver * Production browser automation * Sports betting odds and market structures * Arbitrage calculations and stake sizing * Real-time or low-latency systems * WebSockets and internal website APIs * Redis, workers, queues, and distributed systems * AWS EC2 and Linux server administration * Docker and containerized services * MySQL or PostgreSQL * Monitoring, logging, alerting, and incident investigation * Proxies, browser profiles, session persistence, and network debugging * Diagnosing CPU, memory, process, and browser stability problems ## Strongly Preferred We strongly prefer candidates who have previously worked on: * Sports betting automation * Sportsbook integrations * Arbitrage or positive-EV betting systems * Automated bet execution * Odds comparison platforms * High-frequency browser automation * Real-time market data systems * Financial trading or other latency-sensitive execution systems Experience with sportsbooks such as Pinnacle, Bet365, DraftKings, FanDuel, or similar platforms is a major advantage. Experience with services such as Bright Data, Royal Residential Proxies, ZenRows, or similar proxy and web-access infrastructure is also valuable. ## AI-Assisted Development You must be highly effective with modern AI development tools, particularly: * Cursor * Claude * AI-assisted debugging and code review * Working across multiple repositories * Understanding and validating AI-generated changes * Using AI to accelerate development without introducing production risks We are not looking for someone who simply asks AI to generate code. You must understand the underlying systems, review the output carefully, test changes, and take responsibility for production results. ## Communication and Availability This is intended to be a full-time, long-term position. You will work directly with the CTO and should be available for frequent communication throughout the working day. We expect: * Daily progress updates * Fast responses during important production issues * Clear explanations of what failed and why * Measurable reporting on latency, uptime, missed opportunities, and execution success * Proactive identification of problems and improvements * Strong ownership rather than waiting for individual tasks ## Success Metrics Your performance will be evaluated using measurable production results, including: * Percentage of sportsbook sessions running successfully * Odds-reading latency * Time from arbitrage detection to bet submission * Percentage of opportunities executed successfully * Percentage of bets accepted on both sides * Reduction in one-sided or incomplete arbitrage executions * Reduction in stale or false opportunities * System uptime * Number of sportsbooks and markets successfully supported * Overall realized arbitrage profit Please provide examples of relevant systems you have built, the scale at which they operated, and the specific components for which you were responsible.
