# Senior IT / Systems Engineer – SALTO Access Control, Windows Server, UniFi & VPN ## Job Description We are looking for an experienced **IT / Systems Engineer** to support the server and network infrastructure behind our **SALTO electronic access-control system**. We currently have an operating SALTO environment, but we need a knowledgeable engineer who can review the existing configuration, provide ongoing server/access support, and help us build a more reliable and resilient setup. This is an **immediate project with the potential for ongoing work**. ### Current Environment Our current environment includes: * SALTO access-control system * SALTO running on a **Windows Server environment** * Network traffic managed through **UniFi** * **OpenVPN** used to provide remote/client access * Server access controlled through **IP whitelisting** * Multiple users/clients requiring secure access to the system The system is currently operational. We are primarily looking for someone who can understand the existing architecture, improve reliability, document the environment, and help us prepare for outages or failures. ## Initial Scope of Work ### 1. Review Existing SALTO Infrastructure Review our current configuration, including: * SALTO server configuration * Windows Server configuration * UniFi networking * VPN configuration * IP whitelisting * Remote access * Firewall/network rules * User/client connectivity * Overall security and reliability Identify any vulnerabilities, single points of failure, configuration issues, or opportunities for improvement. ### 2. SALTO Server & Access Support Assist with: * Server configuration and troubleshooting * SALTO connectivity issues * Remote access * VPN troubleshooting * Network/access problems * Windows Server issues affecting SALTO * User/client access issues * General troubleshooting of the SALTO infrastructure ### 3. Backup / Redundancy Environment One of our main priorities is establishing a **backup or redundant SALTO environment** so that we have an alternative method of accessing the system if the primary server or instance becomes unavailable. We would like the engineer to: * Evaluate our current architecture * Recommend the appropriate backup/failover design * Determine what is supported by SALTO * Help configure the backup environment * Establish database/server backup procedures as appropriate * Develop a recovery process if the primary environment goes down * Test the recovery/failover process * Document the procedure so our team knows exactly what to do during an outage We do **not** want to simply create an unsupported duplicate environment. We are looking for someone who can recommend a technically sound and secure architecture. ### 4. Documentation We would like clear documentation of the environment, including: * Basic network architecture * SALTO server configuration * Remote access configuration * VPN configuration * Backup/recovery process * Key dependencies * Troubleshooting procedures * Emergency recovery steps The goal is to avoid having critical infrastructure knowledge held by only one person. ## Emergency Support This is **not necessarily a 24/7 position**. However, please let us know whether you offer emergency or after-hours support if a critical SALTO/server/network outage occurs. Emergency availability is a **plus but not a requirement**. ## Required Experience Please apply if you have strong experience with several of the following: * Windows Server administration * Network administration * VPN configuration and troubleshooting * UniFi / Ubiquiti networking * Firewall configuration * IP whitelisting * Remote-access infrastructure * Server backup and disaster recovery * High-availability or failover environments * Network security * Troubleshooting production systems ### Strongly Preferred Direct experience with: * **SALTO access-control systems** * SALTO server/network architecture * Electronic access-control infrastructure * Building access/security systems * SALTO integrations or deployments Experience supporting access-control systems in **commercial buildings, hotels, resorts, HOAs, multifamily properties, or similar environments** is especially valuable. ## What We Are Looking For We want someone who: * Can troubleshoot independently * Understands both servers and networking * Thinks proactively about redundancy and failure scenarios * Can explain technical issues clearly to a non-technical operations team * Documents their work * Does not make production changes without understanding the impact * Is security-conscious * Can respond reasonably quickly when critical issues arise We are particularly interested in someone we can establish a **long-term relationship with** rather than repeatedly finding a new technician every time an issue occurs. ## Project Type **Initial project:** Review, stabilize, and improve current SALTO/server infrastructure and establish a backup/recovery solution. **Potential ongoing work:** On-call troubleshooting, maintenance, configuration changes, network/server support, and occasional emergency assistance. ## When Applying Please include: 1. Your experience with **SALTO access-control systems**. Be specific about which SALTO products/environments you have supported. 2. Your experience with **Windows Server**. 3. Your experience with **UniFi/Ubiquiti networks**. 4. Your experience configuring **VPNs and secure remote access**. 5. Any experience designing **backup, disaster-recovery, redundancy, or failover environments**. 6. Whether you are available for occasional emergency support. 7. Have you supported access-control infrastructure for hotels, multifamily buildings, HOAs, commercial buildings, or resorts?** **5. Are you available for occasional urgent troubleshooting if the system goes down? If so, what is your typical response time?** **6.
