Senior mechanical engineer for one-week compact computer enclosure sprint

Needs to hire 4 Freelancers
Summary

We're redesigning the mechanical packaging of a compact computer. The components and industrial-design direction are locked. The current prototype works, but the internal layout makes the enclosure much larger than it should be. This is a paid 24-hour working study, not an unpaid proposal process. We may hire up to four people for the same study, then select one person to own the rest of a one-week sprint. The locked stack is an ASUS ROG Strix B850-I mini-ITX board, RTX PRO 4000 Blackwell SFF dual-slot GPU, 600W Flex ATX 1U PSU, Noctua NH-L9a-AM5, three 60mm case fans and a 90-degree PCIe riser. The target envelope is 7.2-7.5 W x 2.7-3.0 D x approximately 14 H inches. The enclosure is 1/16-inch 304 stainless, laser cut and press-brake formed. We have the laser and brake in-house in San Francisco, so the winning design can move into a physical iteration immediately. By the same time the next day, the study must include: - Two viable packaging layouts at real scale - Exact resulting envelope for each - Rough native parametric CAD and assembly STEP - Component placement, cable paths and realistic service clearances - Bottom-to-top airflow logic, including GPU exhaust and filter access - The hard constraints and assumptions most likely to fail in the first physical build We need someone who has personally packaged dense electronics, computers or similarly constrained electromechanical products. Strong SolidWorks sheet-metal experience and real flat-pattern/laser/brake work are required. This is not a rendering exercise or a small 3D-printed PCB box. To be considered, send: 1. The two most relevant products or enclosures you personally engineered, with your exact role 2. One example of native SolidWorks sheet-metal work that reached fabrication 3. Your earliest start time and whether you can protect a full 24-hour window 4. Confirmation that the handoff includes editable native CAD, STEP and bend-aware flat patterns 5. The hardest mechanical constraint you see from this description Individual engineers only. No agency handoff or junior assignment. The study is fixed-price up to $2,500 depending on fit and normal rush-day rate. The selected person continues immediately on the full sprint at an agreed rush T&M rate.
