Shipping Container Building
Worldwide
Accelerate Wind is seeking a mechanical or structural design engineer to develop a complete installation drawing package for a building constructed from stacked 40-foot ISO shipping containers. The structural engineering and design calculations have already been completed internally and reviewed by an external qualified structural engineer. This project is not a structural analysis or redesign effort. Instead, the objective is to produce a professional construction/installation package that a contractor can use to safely assemble the structure in the field. The structure consists of twelve (12) 40-foot high-cube shipping containers stacked in a 2 × 2 × 3 configuration. Scope of Work The successful engineer will produce a complete installation drawing package that includes: 1. Assembly Drawings Develop detailed assembly drawings showing: * Overall building layout * Container numbering and identification * Assembly sequence * Elevation, plan, and isometric views * Critical dimensions and tolerances * Connection details between containers 2. Installation Procedure Develop a contractor-friendly installation procedure including: * Recommended construction sequence * Step-by-step assembly process * Crane/lifting sequence for stacking containers * Installation order for all connection hardware * Alignment recommendations during installation * Final inspection checklist Special attention should be given to ensuring the rooftop containers remain level and aligned during installation. Bridge clamps are expected to assist with final positioning and alignment as they are tightened. 3. Connection Details Provide installation details for all structural components including: * Vertical container connectors * Horizontal container connectors * Bridge clamps * Hoist ring installation * Guy wire attachment points * Electrical conduit penetrations * Steel bearing plate placement beneath container corners * Ground anchor installation details 4. Bill of Materials (BOM) Generate a complete bill of materials including: * Part descriptions * Quantities * Hardware * Purchased components * Fabricated steel components 5. Drawing Package The final package should be suitable for construction and include: * General arrangement drawings * Assembly drawings * Installation details * Exploded views where appropriate * Section views * Part identification * Revision table * Bill of Materials Major Components The assembly includes the following primary components: * Twelve (12) 40-foot high-cube shipping containers * Vertical container connectors * Horizontal container connectors * Bridge clamps between adjacent containers * 1/2-inch steel bearing plates beneath container corner castings * Manta Ray MR-SR ground anchors * 3/4-inch galvanized guy wire system * Hoist rings * Electrical conduit penetrations The structural design specifies sixteen guy wires connected to MR-SR ground anchors with installation requirements including specified anchor installation criteria and guy wire pretension requirements. Existing Engineering Documentation The following work has already been completed and will be provided: * Complete structural calculations * Wind load analysis * Foundation design * Guy wire design * Ground anchor selection * Steel plate sizing * Structural connection requirements * Example drawings started internally The selected engineer should use these documents as the basis for the installation drawings rather than performing a new structural design. Deliverables The final deliverables shall include: * Native CAD files (SolidWorks preferred) * All associated drawing files * PDF drawing package * Complete Bill of Materials * Assembly/installation manual * STEP files (if applicable) * Any custom part models created during the project Accelerate Wind must receive unrestricted ownership of all CAD models and drawing files upon project completion. Files Provided by Accelerate Wind We will provide: * Shipping container CAD model * Structural engineering report * Existing CAD work * Example drawings * Product information for connection hardware * Any additional dimensions required during the project Preferred Qualifications Applicants with experience in one or more of the following are strongly preferred: * Structural steel detailing * Shipping container structures * Industrial equipment installation * Construction drawing packages * SolidWorks assemblies * Design for construction and field installation * Weldment and fabrication drawings Please include examples of similar projects completed.
