Shopify B2B / VAT, Pricing & Deposit Payment System Developer About the Project We are looking for an experienced Shopify developer with strong B2B, VAT, checkout, and Shopify Plus experience to build a complete B2B purchasing system for our Shopify store. The goal is to make the entire B2B experience as automated as possible — from VAT number validation and pricing tiers to deposits, invoices, VAT treatment, and final payments. We are looking for someone who understands Shopify B2B, Shopify Plus, EU VAT rules, checkout customization, customer accounts, invoicing, and payment workflows. Required Functionality 1. Business / B2B Mode * Customers should be able to switch to a Business mode. * In Business mode, product prices can be displayed excluding VAT. * Example: €100 excl. VAT * If the customer does not provide a valid VAT number, the cart should automatically show the applicable VAT/tax. 2. VAT Number at Checkout * Add a VAT number field for B2B customers. * Validate the VAT number. * Determine the customer’s country and VAT status. * Apply the correct VAT treatment automatically. 3. VAT Exemption / Reverse Charge For qualifying intra-EU B2B transactions: * VAT should not be charged. * Cart and checkout should clearly indicate that the transaction is VAT exempt / reverse charged. * The same information must appear on the order confirmation and invoice. Automatically include: “Intra-Community supply of goods. Exempt from VAT according to Article 138(1) of Directive 2006/112/EC. Reverse Charge applies.” 4. Deposit / Upfront Payments For B2B orders, admins should be able to choose whether the customer pays: * 30% upfront, or * 50% upfront The system should automatically calculate the required deposit. 5. Invoice Breakdown The invoice should clearly display: * Full order value * Upfront payment percentage * Upfront payment amount * Amount already paid * Remaining balance * VAT amount / VAT treatment 6. Final Payment After the deposit has been paid: * The system should track the outstanding balance. * Admin should be able to request/issue payment for the remaining amount. * The remaining balance should automatically update once payment is received. 7. VAT on Partial Payments VAT treatment must remain correct across both: * Deposit/upfront invoice * Final invoice For qualifying EU B2B transactions, the reverse-charge/VAT-exempt treatment should be reflected correctly on both. 8. B2B Pricing Tiers Business customers should be assigned to different pricing tiers, for example: * Tier 1 * Tier 2 * Tier 3 Once logged in, customers should automatically see their agreed pricing. 9. Customer-Specific Pricing The system should ideally support: * Standard pricing tiers * Custom pricing for individual customers * Custom pricing for selected products * Different pricing agreements per B2B customer 10. Admin Controls The Shopify admin should make it easy to: * Assign/change a customer’s pricing tier * Set the customer’s deposit percentage * Change B2B account settings * Manage customer-specific pricing * View outstanding balances * Manage deposits and final payments 11. Automation The goal is to automate as much of the process as possible: VAT validation → VAT calculation → VAT exemption/reverse charge → B2B pricing → deposit calculation → invoice generation → balance tracking → final payment The system should require as little manual intervention as possible. Important If the customer does not provide a valid VAT number, the system must not automatically treat them as VAT exempt. The cart/checkout should show the applicable tax/VAT instead. Developer Requirements We are looking for someone with proven experience in: * Shopify / Shopify Plus * Shopify B2B * Shopify Checkout * Shopify Functions * Shopify APIs * Customer accounts * EU VAT / VAT validation * B2B pricing systems * Custom Shopify apps * Invoice/payment workflows * Payment/deposit systems * Third-party VAT services such as VIES where appropriate You should be comfortable determining what should be handled natively by Shopify and what requires custom development or a third-party integration. What We Expect Please do not apply if you have only basic Shopify theme-development experience. We need someone who can architect the complete solution properly and explain: 1. What can be done natively in Shopify 2. What requires custom development 3. What apps/APIs you would recommend, if any 4. How you would handle VAT validation and EU reverse charge 5. How you would implement the deposit and remaining-balance workflow 6.
