Summary

I need a true Shopify + Google Merchant Center expert to diagnose and fix a serious product feed issue for my U.S.-based Shopify store. This is not a basic Google Ads optimization job. I need someone who understands Shopify product feeds, the Google & YouTube channel, Google Merchant Center diagnostics, product attributes, local inventory settings, physical-store listings, feed labels, destinations, and product sync issues. Main Problem: Google Merchant Center is showing a major issue affecting approximately 38.4K products: “Missing local inventory data” The issue is showing under: “Physical store (United States)” We are not trying to run local inventory ads, free local listings, or physical-store inventory listings. We want our products to show for regular U.S. online Shopping listings, Shopping ads, free listings, and dynamic remarketing. My concern is that Merchant Center or Shopify’s Google & YouTube channel has an incorrect local inventory / physical-store setting enabled, causing Google to expect store-level inventory data for products that should be treated as online products only. There also appear to be product attribute sync problems. Some attributes are not showing up correctly in Merchant Center. Important: Please do not apply if your only experience is managing Google Ads campaigns. I need someone who can troubleshoot and fix the technical Merchant Center / Shopify feed problem. Also, please do not simply create a local inventory feed unless you can prove that is actually required. Since we are not running local inventory, the likely fix may be to disable/remove the incorrect local inventory or physical-store setup and correct the product feed/attribute sync. Current Symptoms: * Merchant Center alert showed a major drop in active items. * Active items dropped by approximately 80%. * Dynamic remarketing dropped from about 38,157 active items to about 7,399. * Shopping ads dropped from about 38,383 active items to about 7,410. * Merchant Center says items are either expiring soon or not available to show on Google. * Merchant Center diagnostics show “Missing local inventory data” affecting about 38.4K products. * The issue appears under “Physical store (United States).” * Product attributes also appear to be missing or not syncing correctly. What I Need Fixed: 1. Diagnose why Merchant Center is showing “Missing local inventory data” for approximately 38.4K products. 2. Check why the issue is appearing under “Physical store (United States).” 3. Determine whether Local Inventory Ads, Free Local Listings, Google Business Profile, physical-store marketing methods, or local inventory settings are enabled incorrectly. 4. Review Shopify’s Google & YouTube channel setup. 5. Review Merchant Center data sources, feed labels, target country, destinations, marketing methods, and product feed settings. 6. Confirm that the products are configured for regular U.S. online Shopping/product listings, not physical-store inventory listings. 7. Disable/remove local inventory or physical-store settings if they are not needed. 8. Check why product attributes are not showing correctly in Merchant Center. 9. Review important attributes including color, gender, size, age group, product ID, item group ID, GTIN, MPN, brand, Google product category, availability, price, and condition. 10. Determine whether attributes are missing in Shopify, missing from the feed, not syncing through the Google & YouTube channel, or being overwritten/ignored inside Merchant Center. 11. Fix the root cause so the issue does not come back. 12. Confirm that products remain eligible for regular U.S. Shopping ads, free listings, and dynamic remarketing. 13. Provide a written report explaining what was wrong, what was changed, and what I should monitor going forward. Required Experience: * Google Merchant Center expert * Shopify Google & YouTube channel expert * Experience with large Shopify catalogs * Experience fixing “Missing local inventory data” issues * Experience with local inventory / physical-store settings in Merchant Center * Experience with feed labels, destinations, marketing methods, data sources, and diagnostics * Experience fixing missing product attributes in Merchant Center * Experience with Shopping ads, free listings, and dynamic remarketing product feeds Preferred Work Structure: Milestone 1 — Audit and Diagnosis: * Review Merchant Center diagnostics. * Review Shopify Google & YouTube channel setup. * Identify why Google is expecting local inventory data. * Identify which product attributes are missing or not syncing. * Explain the root cause before making major changes. Milestone 2 — Fix and Verification: * Correct the Merchant Center / Shopify feed setup. * Disable or remove unnecessary local inventory / physical-store settings if confirmed. * Fix product attribute sync issues. * Confirm products are set up for regular U.S. online Shopping listings. * Confirm Shopping ads, free listings, and dynamic remarketing eligibility. * Provide a written summary of what was fixed. Application Questions: Please answer these questions in your proposal: 1. Have you fixed “Missing local inventory data” issues in Google Merchant Center before? 2. Have you worked specifically with Shopify’s Google & YouTube channel? 3. If Merchant Center shows “Physical store (United States)” but the store wants online Shopping listings only, what would you check first? 4. Do you know how to disable/remove incorrect local inventory, free local listings, physical-store marketing methods, or Google Business Profile connections? 5. How would you check whether missing attributes are caused by Shopify, the Google & YouTube channel, the feed, or Merchant Center rules/settings? 6. Have you worked with large catalogs of 30K+ products? 7. Can you provide a short written report after the fix? Access: I will provide limited user/collaborator access to Shopify and Google Merchant Center after hiring. I will not share passwords. Goal: Fix the root cause of the Merchant Center issue, stop Google from treating online products as physical-store inventory products, restore product eligibility, fix missing attribute syncing, and make the Shopify-to-Google product feed stable going forward.
