Short Form Video Editing / Motion Graphics

Summary

I'm looking for a video editor who's really a motion designer. Someone who can take raw footage of me teaching a business concept and build the graphics, diagrams and animations that make the point land… not just cut it, caption it and call it done. This is ongoing work. Part-time to start, full-time hours available for the right person. Minimum 5 shorts and 1 long-form video a week, and if you can handle more, you'll get more (and the pay goes up with it). Who I am: I'm Jacob Sutton, founder of Founder University. We're a growth advisory firm helping coaches, consultants and agency owners scale and we are beginning to produce content and to build our brand organically. For the last few years we’ve grown primarily using paid ads, and now we are ready to scale our organic production. The content I'm producing is educational: sales, marketing, offers, systems, and talking about the things that grow a business. So you'll be editing talking head videos and animating frameworks / concepts. What you'll be making: The look is talking head plus heavy, deliberate motion graphics. Every teaching point gets a visual that explains it faster than my words can. Things like: - Animated and kinetic typography: bold sans headlines mixed with italic serif accents, animated in on the beat - Animated data: think like a retention curve drawing itself across a chart, follower counts stacking up, left-versus-right comparison layouts, frameworks animating as I explain, etc - Diagrams that explain a concept in three seconds: numbered steps with custom icon assets (3D-style chips, badges, that kind of thing), flow layouts, before-and-after panels - Rebuilt UI and document mockups: an app screen, a transcript, a profile page recreated as clean animated graphics instead of a blurry screen recording - Word-by-word captions synced tight to the audio - Cutouts and masks around myself from the talking head video (see the Kallaway examples below - Sound design and SFX that sell every movement (All this on top of the normal sound design, clean cuts, punch-in and outs, etc) Reference reels: - Kallaway Reel 1: https://www.instagram.com/p/DcgT38iu-Bc/ - Kallaway Reel 2: https://www.instagram.com/p/DZU1D_8OI62/ - Tom Noske Reel 3: https://www.instagram.com/p/Db8BbSdzMZK/ - Tom Noske Reel 4: https://www.instagram.com/p/Db5anhGz_Xe/ Watch those. If you think "I can build that", keep reading. If you think "I could do that with a template pack", this one isn't for you. What you're responsible for: You get raw talking-head footage (professionally shot on pro-level cameras), the script, and a brand kit (fonts, colours, logo). And ideally that's it. No shot list or storyboard. You read the script, understand what I'm teaching, decide which lines need a graphic, what it looks like and how it moves… then you build it. Most editors on here can cut a talking head. Almost none can look at a teaching point and turn it into a graphic that makes it click. That second skill is this job. Specifically: - Storyboard the graphics for each video from the script and raw video alone - Cut the talking head: pacing, jump cuts, dead air, the works - Design and animate every graphic, chart, diagram and mockup - Captions, colour grade, sound design, final export - Deliver shorts in 9:16 and long-form in 16:9 - Build a reusable asset and template library in After Effects so every video gets faster than the last - Take feedback well, communicate openly, execute revisions, and build sustainable workflows around you work. Workload: Ideally we are looking to start with a minimum of 5 shorts + 1 long-form per week. The short form will have the heavy editing and motion graphic design, the long-form will be much simpler. We would like the turnaround target to be less than a week, so this weeks edits become next weeks videos, including time for revisions. We'll have one call a week to review and plan. Must-haves: Firstly: An exisiting work or portfolio with talking-head content that has real motion graphics in it (not stock templates, not lower thirds and a logo sting) And the following: - Advanced After Effects. Not "familiar with". Keyframe animation, shape layers, expressions, masking, Roto Brush, the lot. - Premiere Pro, Final Cut or DaVinci Resolve for the actual editing - You can read a script about a business concept and understand it well enough to visualise it - Typography sense: you know why an italic serif next to a bold sans works, and when it doesn't - Sound design instincts - English good enough to read scripts closely and give me clear updates - Reliable. Deadlines hit every week, not most weeks. Nice-to-haves: - Illustrator or Figma for building custom assets - Blender, Element 3D or similar for 3D-style icons - Experience with business, marketing or finance educational content - You've grown your own channel, or worked with a creator who has Pay and hours: Right now, $10 to $20 USD an hour to start, depending on skill and experience. ALTHOUGH the right person will quickly move to $20-40 USD an hour (within 2-3 months) once workload is established, and reliability has been proven. If your work is at the level of the references and you hit deadlines, we'll move quickly on both rate and hours. I'd rather pay one great editor properly than churn through five average ones. How to apply: Generic proposals get archived, so here's the filter: - Start your proposal with the word CHIPS so I know you read this. - Link 2 or 3 pieces that show talking head plus motion graphics you built yourself. Tell me which parts were yours. - Pick one graphic from the reference reels and tell me in 3 or 4 sentences how you'd build it: tools, approach, rough time. - Tell me your realistic weekly capacity in hours, and how many 1min short form pieces you could deliver at this standard. Shortlisted editors get a paid test edit: one short from a script and raw footage, at the rate you propose. Then we’ll talk.
