Skincare Toxicological Risk Assessment
Worldwide
Engagement type: Independent consultant / short-term project Location: Remote Timeline: URGENT — initial report needed within 72 hours of engagement; supplemental report following additional lab testing (~6 weeks out) Overview We are a personal care brand seeking a qualified, independent toxicologist to conduct a Toxicological Risk Assessment (TRA) on one of our topical skincare products, a botanical body oil formulation. This assessment is needed in response to a customer-reported adverse skin reaction and will be submitted as part of a marketplace product safety review. This is a time-sensitive engagement: we require a completed initial report within 72 hours of engagement. Please only apply if you can commit to this turnaround. Scope of Work Review the full product formulation and ingredient-level safety data (SDS documentation for each raw material). Evaluate the hazard profile of each ingredient, including any relevant hazard classifications (e.g., irritant, sensitizer). Assess exposure based on labeled directions for use (application method, frequency, amount, body area). Calculate or reference margin-of-safety / risk assessment methodology appropriate to a leave-on topical cosmetic product. Directly address a specific reported adverse event and provide a causation opinion: is the reported reaction plausibly explained by the formulation, and how does it compare to the ingredients' known hazard profiles? Incorporate available third-party lab testing (in vitro irritation study, finished-product Certificate of Analysis) into the assessment. Provide an initial written opinion based on currently available data, with a plan to issue a supplemental opinion once an additional human-subject patch test (HRIPT) is completed. Required Qualifications Board-certified toxicologist (DABT or equivalent) or PhD-level toxicologist with demonstrated experience in cosmetic/personal care product safety assessment. Materials Provided Product formulation/ingredient list with CAS numbers Ingredient-level Safety Data Sheets Existing lab testing (in vitro irritation study results, finished-product COA) Product labeling and images Factual summary of the reported adverse event and relevant order/complaint timeline Deliverable A signed, dated written Toxicological Risk Assessment report, including the assessor's CV and a statement of independence, suitable for submission to a third party as part of a formal safety review.
