Summary

JOB DESCRIPTION Read the whole post before applying. The application instructions at the bottom are specific, and we screen on them. Who we are We are an established, 32-person US marketing agency with full in-house departments — creative, content, web development, SEO, paid media, and project management. We are not a two-person shop that outsources everything, and you will not be a lone freelancer figuring it out by yourself. The role We are hiring a part-time Social Media Strategist dedicated to one client. Not a rotating pool of accounts. One. Your focus is narrow on purpose: social media strategy for this client, and nothing else. You are not being asked to run their SEO, build their website, or manage their ad spend — we have departments for all of that. You own the social thinking, and the rest of the agency executes around you. That means: A creative department for design, video editing, and graphics — you brief them, they produce A content team already producing blogs, newsletters, and long-form material you can mine A dedicated project manager you will work with closely, who handles scheduling, follow-through, approvals, and keeps the work moving between departments Established workflows, tooling, and approval processes that already exist and work You bring the strategy and the judgment. You will not be alone with a blank calendar. The client A physician-founder and author who is building a personal brand ahead of a book launch. Beyond that, we keep details private until we shortlist — he is well known in his field, is approached constantly, and we protect that. You will be fully briefed before any interview. What we can tell you now is what the work requires: He is an expert with genuinely technical ideas and a small, influential target audience. This is not consumer content and it is not a follower-count game. Success is credibility and authority. He is not an influencer and has no interest in becoming one. He is allergic to hype, and so are we. He is a licensed physician, so there are hard limits on what can be claimed. He has very little time, and the entire point of this hire is that he stops having to be his own marketing strategist. What you will own Social media strategy for this client — the plan, the through-line, and the point of view. Build the social strategy across his personal brand and the related business brands, and define what belongs where. That architecture is not settled; working it out is part of the job. Deliver a rolling content plan tied to a real calendar — the book's runway, the sports calendar, and the business's service lines. Establish voice and messaging guidelines so he can approve quickly instead of rewriting. Direct the repurposing engine. Long-form material, podcast appearances, and video already exist and are going unused. You decide what becomes what; the creative team cuts it. Own the editorial calendar and the quality bar across channels. LinkedIn is where we expect the center of gravity to be; the other channels support the business brands. Report on what is working and what is not, monthly. Stay engaged with the client directly. This is not a behind-the-scenes role: Join the weekly client call, Thursday mornings at 8:00 AM US Eastern. Standing commitment. You present your own strategy and results. Build the brand deliberately in the months leading up to the book launch, in coordination with the publisher's own marketing team. Be a real thought partner. He wants someone who does the homework and understands the philosophy behind what he is building — not someone who takes orders. Who we are looking for 3+ years managing social media for a personal or executive brand — a founder, physician, author, athlete, or public expert. Agency or in-house both fine. Running a product brand's Instagram is not the same thing, and we will be able to tell. Demonstrated LinkedIn ability. Not "we posted on LinkedIn." You have grown an individual's audience and authority there and you can show the posts. You can write. Much of this is writing in someone else's voice about ideas that are genuinely technical. If you need every word handed to you, this is the wrong role. You understand regulated-industry constraints. Healthcare, legal, or financial experience is a strong plus. We do not overpromise, and we do not hype. You are self-directed. You will be handed a strategic problem, not a task list. Notice the gap, bring the plan. You work well inside a team. You will brief designers, hand off to a project manager, and route work through approvals. If you would rather do everything yourself, you will find this frustrating. Comfortable with intellectual, non-viral content. The runway is long and deliberate. If your instinct is trend-chasing, we are not a fit. Nice to have Sports, sports medicine, longevity, or human performance background Book launch or author-platform experience Podcast guest-booking or production experience Working knowledge of Slack, Monday.com, and social scheduling tools Comfort using AI tools well — as leverage, not as a substitute for thinking What will get you passed over A proposal that is obviously AI-generated boilerplate. We read a lot of these and they are easy to spot. Generic promises of reach, virality, or "10x growth." No specific work you can point to and talk about. Skipping the Loom video. It is required. Terms Rate: $15–$30/hour, depending on experience Hours: 10–15 hours per week to start, with room to grow as the book launch approaches Type: Long-term and ongoing — we want someone who is still here at the book release Availability: Must be available Thursday mornings at 8:00 AM US Eastern for the weekly client call. Otherwise flexible. Location: Remote, any location, with meaningful overlap with US Eastern hours HOW TO APPLY Two things. Both required. 1. A short Loom video — 3 minutes maximum, unscripted. Do not polish it. We want to hear you think. Cover: Who you are, and one personal or executive brand you have grown One specific thing you did that worked, and roughly what it produced How you would build an audience for an expert whose ideas are technical and whose audience is small but influential 2. A written reply covering: 2–3 links to social accounts you personally managed, and what your role was on each One example of a long-form piece of content — a paper, article, talk, or report — that you turned into a social series. What did you make from it? How you handle a busy, exacting client with very little time to review Your regulated-industry experience, if any Your weekly availability and your rate Start your reply with the word ORTHO so we know you read the post. We move quickly. Strong candidates go to a short call, then a paid 3–5 day trial project before we make it ongoing.
