Software Engineer, Test Automation and AI-Assisted QA

## Project ThirdLaw is building an AI runtime control platform with services written in Go and Python, a FastAPI application backend, and a React frontend. We are looking for an engineer to design and implement the initial automated testing framework for the platform. The goal is to create a reliable foundation for continuous testing that can later be maintained, expanded, and adapted with the assistance of AI coding agents. ## Responsibilities * Assess the existing codebase and define an automation testing strategy across: * Go-based collection services * Python evaluation and application services * FastAPI APIs * React frontend workflows * Establish the initial test architecture, tools, conventions, and repository structure. * Build automated unit, integration, API, and end-to-end tests for critical product workflows. * Create reusable test fixtures, test data, mocks, and environment setup. * Integrate automated tests into the CI/CD process. * Produce clear documentation so engineers and AI agents can reliably add and update tests. * Identify application changes needed to improve testability. * Define an initial set of quality gates, coverage expectations, and failure-reporting practices. ## Initial Deliverables * Recommended test architecture and toolchain. * Working automated test framework across the major application layers. * Automated coverage for a representative set of critical workflows. * CI integration with clear pass, failure, and diagnostic output. * Documented patterns and instructions for adding new tests. * Guidance and configuration for safely using AI agents to generate, update, and maintain tests. ## Qualifications * Strong experience building automated testing frameworks for multi-service applications. * Proficiency testing Go and Python applications. * Experience with FastAPI or similar API frameworks. * Experience testing React applications using modern browser automation tools. * Familiarity with integration testing, containerized environments, and CI/CD systems. * Ability to create maintainable testing conventions rather than only writing individual tests. * Practical experience using AI coding agents is strongly preferred. ## Success Criteria The project will be successful when ThirdLaw has a dependable automated test foundation that: * Runs consistently in CI. * Covers critical backend, frontend, and cross-service workflows. * Produces actionable failure information. * Is straightforward for engineers to extend. * Is structured clearly enough that AI agents can safely create and update tests without degrading test quality.
