Sound Engineer / Re-recording Mixer — Documentary Films (Long-Term Collaboration)

Summary

We are finishing a feature-length documentarym (41 minutes) — a real journey across Morocco and Mauritania, ending on the legendary iron ore train through the Sahara. It's built on two layers: intimate spoken reflection (philosophy, confession, real conversation) and cinematic adventure (desert, trains, wind, chaos). This is the first of several films we plan to make in this style, so we're looking for someone to grow with us long term, not a one-off hire. This film will premiere in a cinema in London. We need a sound engineer who understands that sound is the emotional engine of a film — not a technical afterthought. What we need from you: You know how to use music and sound design to lift emotion — to make a quiet confession land in the chest, to make a train feel like a monster, to make silence feel earned — WITHOUT ever burying the dialogue. Every word must stay clear and understandable, even when the score swells underneath it. That balance is the whole job. You can take footage recorded in difficult real-world conditions (wind, moving vehicles, open desert, lav and on-camera mics) and make it sound intentional, warm, and consistent across the entire film. You understand loudness delivery for multiple platforms. Our films are watched on iPhone speakers, laptops, headphones, and potentially in cinema — they have to feel right on all of them. You mix once, correctly, then deliver platform-correct masters. You build mixes where music and dialogue breathe together — ducking, EQ carving, leveling — so the viewer never reaches for the volume, never misses a word, and always feels the emotion. The one rule: the viewer should never reach for the volume knob and never miss a word. If you understand why that single sentence is the entire job, you're the person we want. If you love making people feel something through sound — and you obsess over dialogue staying crystal clear underneath a powerful score
