Steel Detailer for Fabrication

About the Position We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Steel Detailer to join our team specializing in the design, engineering, and fabrication of fabric structures and structural steel systems. This position is offered as a 6-month contract, with the opportunity to transition into a permanent full-time role based on performance, project requirements, and business growth. The successful candidate will work closely with engineers, project managers, and fabrication teams to develop detailed steel models, connection details, shop drawings, erection drawings, and fabrication packages for a wide range of fabric structure projects. Roles and Responsibilities - Create detailed steel profiles, assemblies, and structural components based on engineering requirements and project instructions. - Develop accurate 3D models, connection details, and fabrication information using industry-standard software. - Produce complete 2D and 3D drawing packages for fabrication, construction, and installation. - Prepare and maintain shop drawings, component drawings, fabrication packages, and erection drawings. - Review, refine, revise, and update drawings throughout the project lifecycle. - Collaborate closely with engineers and internal team members to ensure designs meet project specifications and construction requirements. - Coordinate with fabrication and installation teams to resolve detailing, manufacturing, and field-related issues. - Identify opportunities to improve design efficiency, reduce fabrication costs, and enhance constructability. - Provide feedback and recommendations for value engineering and continuous improvement initiatives. - Develop innovative detailing solutions that support product standardization and maintain competitiveness within the market. - Maintain drawing standards, revision control, and project documentation. - Ensure all deliverables comply with applicable codes, standards, and company quality requirements. Required Qualifications - Diploma or Degree in Structural Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Drafting Technology, or a related field. - Minimum 3 years of experience in structural steel detailing. Proficiency in: - Tekla Structures - SolidWorks - AutoCAD - Strong understanding of structural steel detailing, steel connections, and fabrication processes. - Experience creating shop drawings, erection drawings, and fabrication packages. - Ability to interpret engineering drawings, design calculations, and technical specifications. - Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills. - Ability to work independently in a remote environment while collaborating effectively with a multidisciplinary team. Preferred Qualifications -Experience with fabric buildings, fabric structures, tension membrane structures, or pre-engineered building systems. - Knowledge of Canadian and North American steel fabrication and detailing practices. - Experience coordinating directly with fabrication shops and field installation teams. - Familiarity with CNC files, automated manufacturing systems, and production workflows. - Understanding of value engineering and design optimization techniques.
