Storybook Map Illustrator — Hand-Drawn B&W Map for Children's Historical Novel
Worldwide
Hi! I'm publishing a middle-grade historical novel (ages 8–11) through Amazon KDP, and I need one hand-drawn storybook map for the opening pages. The book: A warm adventure set in Roman Londinium (London) around AD 410 — a boy named Caius earning his first coins in a city at the end of an empire. The map lets young readers trace his world. What I need — one full-page map, black-and-white / grayscale: A storybook map of Londinium and the hill above it, showing: Caius's family home on the hill above the city The path down, passing an abandoned villa (gate open, courtyard gone to grass) The west gate in the city wall The forum — the heart of the book: market stalls, a fountain, the basilica steps, a moneychanger's table in the shade, a woodcarver's stall, a cloth merchant's stall The riverside docks and wharves where grain boats unload The river stairs down to the water The city wall, with one visible gap where stone has slumped into rubble (a small plot point) The river (labelled Tamesis / Thames — I'd love young readers to realize this is real London) A small inset in one corner showing Britain and Gaul across the water, for historical context Style — important: The book's interior illustrations are currently being hand-painted by another artist in ink linework with soft grey watercolor washes, warm and slightly loose, with visible paper texture. Overall: a warm, aged-parchment storybook map — a classic adventure-book endpaper, not a technical atlas. Slightly playful, historically grounded. No AI-generated art, please — I need to disclose accurately on KDP and want original, copyrightable work. Specs: Print-ready 300 DPI, grayscale Sized to fit a 5.25" × 8" page with margins (printed on cream paper, black ink) Labels must stay legible at that small print size — please keep lettering generous and the detail restrained Delivered as PNG or TIFF (layered source file appreciated) What I'll provide: a reference sketch showing the layout and every location, the relevant passages from the book describing each place, and the two character illustrations above as style reference. How I like to work: a rough pencil layout first for approval, then the final. Two revision rounds. Fixed price, paid on delivery. No hard deadline — three to four weeks is completely fine, I'd rather it be right than fast. If it goes well, I have two more books in the series that will each need a map. To apply, please include: Examples of maps you've illustrated (storybook, fantasy, or historical) Any black-and-white / grayscale work, since this map is B&W Your quote and estimated timeline Confirmation the work is hand-illustrated, not AI-generated
