Structural Engineer — Shipping-Container Duplex Calcs (PD-40D, 40' Park Model) — NM + TX Compliance
Worldwide
About us PadDwell, LLC is a Wyoming-based housing startup building a 40-foot shipping-container duplex called the PD-40D Plug-In, Live-In Duplex. Designed to certify under ANSI A119.5 Park Model Recreational Vehicle standard, with IRC R-3 modular as a recovery pathway via TDLR-IHB (Texas) and NM-CID Modular (New Mexico). First deployment is in New Mexico; Texas follows soon after. What we need A structural engineer to produce structural calculations and structural-specific sheets for the PD-40D drawing package. Drawings are about 80% complete (27 architectural and MEP sheets) and currently being finalized by our offshore MEP/CAD partner. We need a structural engineer to add the engineering content the drawings currently lack — calcs, sizing, capacities, and structural detail sheets. This is engineering work, not drafting. We have our CAD/MEP capability covered. Please apply only if you can produce structural calculations from scratch. Scope of work (deliverables) 1. Structural calcs (wind, gravity, transport loads) - ASCE 7 wind load analysis (Cat C, 115 mph base / 140 mph upgrade) — uplift, lateral, overturning - Gravity load analysis (live + dead) for floor and roof - Transport load analysis (DOT requirements; 32,000 LBS GVWR) - Anchor / tie-down capacities at corner castings (10,000 LBS each) 2. Header and opening framing schedule - Sizing for door openings (4 entry doors, 4 interior doors per studio) - Sizing for window openings (4 sliding windows + bath/utility windows) - Connection details to shipping-container steel (light-gauge steel + framing track) 3. Container cutout reinforcement details - Wall cuts (front + rear walls have multiple openings) - Roof cuts (mini-split condensate, vent stack penetrations) - Reinforcement member schedule (welded angles, plate stiffeners, etc.) 4. Chassis tie-down and anchor schedule - Foundation anchor plan (Simpson model numbers or equivalent) - Bolted-not-welded chassis connection details - Per-anchor capacity and design pressure (psf) 5. Demising wall structural review - Verify UL-listed 1-hour rated assembly (IRC R302.3 compliance) - Confirm light-gauge steel stud framing meets duplex separation 6. Optional — Final stamping (if licensed in NM / TX) - Apply P.E. seal under New Mexico license (and Texas license if licensed there) - Coordinate with our chosen Manufacturer of Record before final stamp - Engineer of Record liability for the structural items above Why this matters Our drawings need to satisfy a dual-pathway certification strategy: ANSI A119.5 Park Model RVIA (for RV-park deployment) AND IRC R-3 modular (for permanent-foundation deployment via TDLR-IHB in TX or NM-CID Modular in NM). The structural design must work for both pathways. Our offshore partner has the architectural and MEP work covered; we need a structural specialist to fill in the engineering-specific items above. Deliverables - Structural calc package (PDF report with all calculations + cited code references) - Structural sheets added or updated in the drawing set (delivered as .dwg AND PDF, paper-space layouts following the existing P1.xxx naming convention) - If licensed: final stamped drawings under your active state P.E. license What we provide - Existing 27-sheet architectural + MEP drawing package (PDF + .dwg + Revit source) - Material schedule and finish schedule already specified - Project specifications and prior structural notes - Quick-turnaround communication via Upwork chat and WhatsApp (we are responsive) Who we want to hear from - Structural engineers (degreed and/or licensed) with steel-structure calculation experience - Shipping-container or modular-construction experience strongly preferred - Native or near-native English required Please do NOT apply if you are a CAD drafter, BIM modeler, or architectural-only designer. We have the drafting / BIM / MEP side covered. We need someone who can produce original structural calculations. Note on licensing: If you are an active P.E. licensed in New Mexico (Texas a strong plus) AND would also apply your stamp to the deliverables, please flag that in your proposal — your scope will expand to Engineer of Record, and your rate will reflect that. How to apply Please include in your proposal: 1. Your engineering background — degree, years of structural experience, and your active P.E. license(s) and state(s) if any 2. One example of a prior structural calc package you have produced (a sample is ideal, redacted if confidential) 3. Your typical turnaround for the scope above 4. Your fixed-price bid 5. Any clarifying questions you have about the scope Looking forward to talking. — Yaji Tramontini, Founder, PadDwell, LLC
