Structural Engineer (South Carolina PE) – Seismic Retrofit

Overview We are seeking a Structural Engineer (PE), licensed in the State of South Carolina, to perform the structural analysis, seismic design, and engineering required to retrofit an existing industrial abrasive storage hopper for relocation from Virginia to Goose Creek, South Carolina. The hopper was originally designed for a lower seismic region. A previous structural analysis indicates that modifications are required to satisfy the higher seismic requirements for the new installation. The engineer will review the existing design, determine the required structural modifications, perform all necessary calculations, produce stamped engineering drawings and calculations, and provide construction details for fabrication. Existing Equipment Abrasive Storage Hopper Capacity: 830 cubic feet Overall plan dimensions: 120" x 96" Approximate operating weight: 140,900 lb Structural steel support tower with four HSS legs Leg sections: 6" x 8" x 5/16" wall A36 tubing Hopper shell constructed from 5/16" A36 plate The equipment has already undergone an initial seismic review which identified overstressed members under the new design criteria. Scope of Work The selected engineer will: Review existing fabrication drawings and structural calculations. Review the previous seismic analysis. Verify applicable design criteria for Goose Creek, South Carolina. Perform structural analysis for the existing support frame. Determine required strengthening modifications. Design all required structural reinforcements. Verify adequacy of: Support legs Bracing system Hopper shell Hopper corner framing Welds Gusset plates Base plates Anchor bolts Produce fabrication details for all modifications. Provide calculation package. Provide South Carolina PE stamp for final drawings and calculations suitable for permitting and fabrication. We have an initial strengthening concept that we would like evaluated, including: Reinforcing the existing legs with heavy structural angles or cover plates. Adding HSS tube X-bracing between legs. Reinforcing hopper corners with structural angles. Additional gussets where required. These concepts are suggestions only. We are looking for the engineer's professional design and recommendations. We will provide: Existing fabrication drawings 3D layout drawings Lifting drawings Previous structural analysis Previous seismic study Photos of the existing equipment Please include: Confirmation that you hold an active South Carolina PE license. Relevant industrial or seismic retrofit projects. Software used (RAM, RISA, STAAD, SAP2000, etc.). Estimated hours. Estimated schedule to complete. Availability to begin.
