Surface Pattern Designer
Worldwide
About the Project We are developing a line of designer dog beds with interchangeable fabric covers - think Lay Lo Pets meets the interior design sensibility of Toddlekind and Ruggable. We need a surface pattern designer to create our launch collection of 3–5 repeat patterns for use on dog bed covers. Patterns will be handed off to a textile manufacturer for production as woven/knit fabric (not printed), so they need to work as clean, geometric repeats. Brand Aesthetic Colors: Burgundy / cream / warm neutrals (sand, ecru, warm brown, black) Mood: Premium, calm, interior-forward. Our beds should look like they belong in a Scandinavian home, not a pet store. Think: quiet luxury, timeless geometry, sophisticated neutrals. Reference brands: Lay Lo Pets - geometric woven patterns, stripes, checks, neutral palette Toddlekind - Scandi-inspired, two-tone, clean lines, home-friendly Ruggable - bold-but-refined geometry, versatile colorways What we are NOT: bright colors, cartoon animals, cute/novelty prints, seasonal themes. Deliverables 3 hero patterns (with 1–2 colorway variations each = 5–7 files total): Stripe pattern - wide stripe or multi-stripe, clean and architectural Geometric pattern - diamond / chevron / check / grid — bold but minimal Texture pattern - subtle allover repeat that reads almost as a solid from distance (boucle-inspired, small geometric, tonal) For each pattern, deliver: Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop file (vector preferred) Repeat tile clearly defined Minimum 2 colorways: (a) cream/ecru/black and (b) burgundy/cream Flat PNG mockup showing the pattern as a repeating fabric swatch Files at minimum 300 DPI Technical Requirements Patterns will be woven into fabric structure (jacquard knit), not printed. This means: Maximum 2–3 colors per pattern (manufacturing constraint) Clean geometric shapes only — no gradients, no photographic elements, no complex illustrations Pattern must tile seamlessly Lines/shapes should be bold enough to read clearly at fabric scale (minimum 1–2 cm per element at 1:1 scale) Timeline Brief review + initial concepts: 1 week Revisions: 1 round included Final delivery: 2–3 weeks from start Budget Please provide your rate for this scope. We are looking for quality over speed - this is a brand-defining project and we will credit the designer in brand materials. Ideal Candidate Portfolio showing home textile, rug, or upholstery patterns Experience with geometric / repeat patterns (not just illustration or apparel prints) Understanding of fabric/weave constraints is a strong plus Clean, minimal aesthetic - not maximalist or illustrative Responsive communication, fluent English How to Apply Please include in your proposal: 2–3 portfolio examples most relevant to this project (home textile / geometric patterns preferred) Your rate for this scope One sentence on how you would approach the stripe pattern for a premium pet brand Reference images of the fabric direction will be shared upon project start.
