Technical Lead for Game Start-Up
Worldwide
I need a technical lead for my early-stage game start-up, someone who combines strong game-design judgement with hands-on experience across the game-development lifecycle. You will take an initial concept and turn it into a clear, buildable product: defining the technical approach, shaping core gameplay, creating an execution roadmap, and leading delivery from prototype to launch. As the company grows, you may also recruit, manage, and mentor a development team. What I’m looking for - Demonstrable experience in both game design and game development, ideally including a shipped title - Ability to translate a high-level idea into gameplay systems, technical requirements, milestones, and a playable prototype - Strong knowledge of the end-to-end development process, including engine selection, production planning, testing, iteration, and release - Hands-on technical capability, alongside the judgement to make pragmatic trade-offs on scope, quality, time, and cost - Leadership experience or clear potential to lead a small cross-functional team, set priorities, monitor progress, and maintain quality standards - Excellent communication and a genuine start-up mindset: proactive, resourceful, and comfortable operating with ambiguity This scope aligns with typical game-design leadership responsibilities: managing deliverables, understanding technical and creative constraints, coaching teams, and keeping work on track against quality and timing goals. Commitment This is a full-time role, working five days per week, 9:00 am – 5:30 pm UK time. The project is at a very early stage, so this is an opportunity to have significant ownership over both the product direction and the technology foundations
