Test Case: Competitor Backlink Acquisition Analysis

We require a focused backlink analysis of one competitor website. A previous independent report observed an apparent relationship between the competitor’s referring-domain growth and increased organic traffic. This task is to provide the detailed underlying data for stakeholder review and for inclusion in a future quotation brief to an established link-building or digital PR business. The freelancer will not be required to build links, conduct outreach or sell backlink services. Required analysis Using Ahrefs, Semrush, Majestic or a comparable professional tool, provide: The referring URL for each meaningful backlink reviewed. The competitor page receiving the link. First-seen or estimated acquisition date. Referring domain and page-level strength. Estimated organic traffic to the referring page. Topical relevance and geographic relevance. Dofollow or nofollow status. Anchor text and link placement. Likely link type, such as editorial, digital PR, guest contribution, directory, partnership or possible paid placement. Monthly new and lost referring domains over the past 12–24 months. Link-acquisition velocity and any notable periods of rapid growth. A comparison between link acquisition timing and estimated organic traffic changes. A cautious estimate of the likely effort and cost required to reproduce the strongest link-acquisition methods. Deliverables A clearly structured spreadsheet suitable for stakeholder analysis. A monthly backlink-acquisition summary. Five concise findings. A brief explanation of which link types and campaign methods should be included in a future quotation brief. Raw exports or screenshots without interpretation are not sufficient.
