Title Mechanical Engineer Needed – Fabrication-Ready CAD Package for Fireworks Launch Table (SolidWorks or Fusion 360) Project Description I have developed a patented product called the Launching Pad, a portable fireworks launch table designed for the safe positioning and stabilization of consumer fireworks cakes during ignition. The concept has already been engineered and dimensioned. I have: Existing CAD models Locked dimensions Technical renderings Product specifications A local fabrication partner waiting to build the prototype The previous CAD work was not fabrication-ready, and my fabrication shop has requested a complete manufacturing package suitable for prototype construction. I am not looking for concept art or a simple 3D model. I need an experienced mechanical engineer who understands fabrication, laser cutting, sheet metal design, welding, and manufacturing documentation. Scope of Work Develop a complete fabrication-ready engineering package including: Complete 3D Assembly Including: HDPE tabletop Steel frame Detachable legs Removable side braces Removable runway Horizontal sliding plunger assembly Rubber-faced locking plate L-corner locating stop Spring clip assemblies Heat shield plate Carrying handle Manufacturing Drawings Produce fully dimensioned drawings for every manufactured component. Include: Overall dimensions Hole locations Material thickness Weld locations Assembly details Tolerances Bend notes Hardware callouts Sheet Metal Components Provide fabrication-ready flat patterns for laser cutting. Include: DXF files Bend lines Bend angles Formed sheet metal details Material specifications Assembly Package Provide: Exploded assembly drawing Bill of Materials (BOM) Assembly sequence Hardware schedule Deliverables Native CAD files: SolidWorks preferred Fusion 360 acceptable Plus: STEP (.STEP) Individual DXF files PDF drawing package Complete BOM Important Design Requirements The product geometry has already been established. Critical features include: 42" × 32" tabletop Approximately 40" overall height Detachable legs Removable runway Horizontal plunger with rubber locking face L-corner locating stop Spring clip system Heat shield Carrying handle The design must remain faithful to the locked geometry while improving manufacturability where appropriate. Important The final deliverable must be sufficient for a commercial sheet metal fabrication shop to manufacture the prototype without requiring additional engineering or redesign. The objective is a complete fabrication package—not simply a visual CAD model. Ideal Experience Please only apply if you have experience with: Mechanical product design Sheet metal fabrication Laser-cut parts Weldments Prototype development Manufacturing drawings Design for Manufacturing (DFM) SolidWorks Weldments or Fusion 360 Sheet Metal Please include examples of fabricated products you have designed. One more recommendation After watching this project evolve over the past several weeks, I would add one requirement that I don't think we appreciated at the beginning: The selected engineer should have prior experience creating products that were actually manufactured, not just modeled. There is a huge difference between someone who can make a nice-looking CAD model and someone who knows what a fabricator needs to successfully laser cut, bend, weld, and assemble a product. Your conversations with Matt at Central Industrial have made that distinction very clear.
