We are seeking an experienced Subject Matter Expert (SME) in Child Development, Parenting, Family Studies, Human Development, or a related field to review and revise existing lesson designs for a high school audience. The selected SME will provide targeted content remediation, improve instructional clarity, and ensure lessons align with current educational, diversity, equity, inclusion, and cultural sensitivity standards. Job Description We are looking for a qualified SME with professional, academic, curriculum development, or teaching experience in Child Development, Parenting Education, Family Studies, Human Development, Social Sciences, or related disciplines. The SME will review existing lesson designs and implement targeted revisions to improve content quality while preserving approved learning objectives, instructional intent, and lesson structure. This role focuses on content enhancement, sensitivity review, instructional improvement, and image replacement recommendations. Responsibilities Content Review and Revision Review existing lesson designs and identify outdated, inaccurate, biased, culturally insensitive, or poorly worded content. Revise content related to: Family structures Parenting styles Relationships and partnerships Gender roles and responsibilities Caregiver roles and expectations Replace assumptions, stereotypes, and generalizations with balanced, evidence-based explanations. Update lessons using inclusive and neutral language that reflects diverse family structures, caregiving arrangements, and relationship models. Improve instructional clarity by rewriting confusing, awkward, misleading, or poorly placed content. Add limited instructional enhancements where needed to strengthen learner understanding and address content gaps. Ensure all revisions remain age-appropriate, culturally responsive, and aligned with educational best practices. Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Sensitivity Review Identify and remediate language that may marginalize, stereotype, exclude, or unintentionally favor specific cultural, social, or family perspectives. Ensure content reflects diverse experiences and viewpoints. Review lessons for cultural sensitivity and inclusive representation. Image Review and Replacement Recommendations Identify inappropriate, non-compliant, culturally insensitive, or instructionally ineffective images. Recommend replacement images that: Reflect diverse ethnic and racial backgrounds Represent diverse family structures Include inclusive caregiver and relationship models Support instructional objectives Source replacement recommendations from Shutterstock and provide Shutterstock image IDs. Ensure recommended images comply with diversity, inclusion, and sensitivity standards. Collaboration and Quality Assurance Provide clear, actionable feedback and revisions directly within lesson files. Maintain consistency in tone, terminology, and instructional approach throughout the lessons. Collaborate with instructional designers, project managers, and curriculum teams to support course quality initiatives. Follow established review workflows and project timelines. Qualifications Bachelor's or master's degree in child development, Human Development, Family Studies, Parenting Education, Early Childhood Education, Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, or a related field. 4+ years of professional, academic, curriculum development, or teaching experience in child development, parenting, family studies, or related disciplines. Experience reviewing, editing, or developing educational content for secondary, post-secondary, or workforce training programs. Strong understanding of child development theories, family systems, parenting practices, and inclusive educational approaches. Excellent writing, editing, and revision skills. Strong attention to detail and ability to provide structured, constructive feedback. Preferred Skills Experience conducting DEI, bias, cultural sensitivity, or accessibility reviews for educational content. Experience with curriculum review, instructional design, or online learning development. Familiarity with Shutterstock or other educational image sourcing platforms. Knowledge of educational standards and best practices for high school learners. Experience working with Microsoft Word-based curriculum review workflows. Why Join Us?
