Unity Technical Artist/Developer - Kitbashed Modular Environment + JSON-Driven Level System
Worldwide
We are building a third-person exploration game (think Kena: Bridge of Spirits, Darksiders) set in a dome city made of multiple biomes, built from mismatched Unity Asset Store packs. This is Phase 1, a vertical slice, one fully realized test world to prove out a pipeline before scaling to more. This is a long-term project. If Phase 1 goes well, we'd move to an hourly arrangement for the remaining worlds and later systems like deck-building and combat. I need someone who's genuinely motivated to grow with this project long term. If you're only looking for a one time gig, this isn't the right fit. Need someone who can own this end to end, both art and systems. What's involved: Kitbash mismatched asset packs into a shared-pivot, grid-snapping modular tileset (hallways, corners, rooms) Strip and rebuild materials on unified master shaders so unrelated packs feel like one world, plus unified lighting/post-processing Design a coordinate-based JSON schema for level layout, with a separate content layer mapping asset IDs to prefabs, and code that reads the JSON and assembles the scene A Unicode box-drawing text map (U+2500 to U+257F) generated from the JSON for QA First-person controller with collision, plus proximity-triggered doors A small connected fragment of a second biome to prove the transition is consistent Mobile optimization pass (iOS, Android, PC/Mac) Requirements: Unity 6000.4.10f1, strong C# (this is not art-only), Git/GitHub. To apply, include: Portfolio links (sci-fi, industrial, or retro-futuristic environments preferred) Your approach to the JSON schema, grid/coordinate vs node graph, and how it avoids inconsistent level geometry Confirmation you're comfortable owning both art pipeline and the JSON assembly code A sentence on why this kind of long-term project interests you Fixed budget for Phase 1: $400. Please don't send generic proposals, we want to see you've actually understood the scope.
