Upwork Hiring Package — Dispute Writer & Researcher (Airbnb + City STR Compliance)

Posted 4 weeks ago

Worldwide

Summary

Writer & Researcher for Occasional Airbnb Disputes + City STR Compliance — Journalism Background Much Preferred, Airbnb Experience a Big Plus Description: We run a portfolio of ~15 short- and mid-term rentals across the Coachella Valley (Palm Springs, Palm Desert, Indio, Desert Hot Springs, Rancho Mirage, Cathedral City) and we're hiring one sharp writer-researcher to own our written cases — both to Airbnb and to city regulators. The core skill is writing: taking complicated, messy source material — Airbnb policies, municipal codes, timelines, evidence, guest messages — and turning it into clear, persuasive, well-structured arguments that win. We want a strong news sense: someone who can look at a pile of facts and instantly spot what matters most, what's compelling, and what makes the strongest case. If you can find the main point in a 40-page ordinance and make it land in three paragraphs, you're who we want. If you have any Airbnb experience — hosting, working on the platform's team, or handling Airbnb disputes — say so in the very first line of your application. What you'll do: Research and write dispute submissions and appeals to Airbnb: damage / AirCover claims, Resolution Center requests, guest counter-claims, chargebacks, and review-removal arguments Build the evidence packages and fact narratives that actually get claims paid Read city STR ordinances and code-enforcement notices; extract what applies to us Draft written statements, position letters, and evidence packages for permit renewals and compliance/hearing prep Distill dense material into tight briefs our team can act on, and flag risks and deadlines proactively Help build a repeatable claim/evidence SOP our team follows at turnover You're a fit if you have: Excellent business/persuasive writing — clear, structured, and fast Strong news judgment — you spot the lead, the strongest angle, and what's most compelling in a stack of facts A reporter's instinct for finding the key point and extrapolating it from messy source material Comfort reading and translating dense material (Airbnb policy, contracts, regulations, municipal codes) for a non-expert audience Meticulous sourcing and fact-organization habits Much preferred: A journalism degree or serious journalism/reporting background — this is the skill set we most want Airbnb experience — as a host, on the platform's Trust & Safety / Resolution Center / Claims team, or handling host-side disputes Some legal, compliance, or paralegal exposure (helpful, not required) Familiarity with short-term-rental regulation, land use, or local government / hearing processes California experience Important: This role is writing, research, and preparation support only — not legal representation or legal advice. We retain licensed counsel separately where required.
