User Research Interviewer — Call Warm Leads (Construction App)
Worldwide
We make an iPhone app that helps contractors create professional estimates fast. We have a steady flow of warm inbound leads — contractors who used the app and left their number asking for help getting set up. Before we scale our marketing and pricing, we need to deeply understand these users. We're looking for a customer development / discovery interviewer (NOT a salesperson) to call these warm leads and run short, structured discovery interviews — to learn how they really work, what they value, why they convert or don't, and what they'd genuinely pay. The #1 goal is INSIGHT, not sales. You're a researcher, not a closer. The most valuable thing you can bring back is the truth about our customers — in their own words. What we want to learn (the core questions): - How do contractors currently create and send estimates? What's painful about it? - Why do some create an estimate in our app but never send it to a client? - What made them download the app / ask for help — what was the trigger? - What would make the app a "must-have" vs "nice to have"? - How much would they realistically pay, and for what? What feels too expensive? - What almost stopped them from using it (objections, confusion, trust)? What you'll do: - Call our warm leads (we provide phone number, trade, and context + a shared tracker) - Run a ~15-minute discovery interview using open, non-leading questions (Mom Test style — we'll provide a question guide; do NOT pitch or lead them) - Record every call and share the audio - Log structured notes per call (their words, pains, pricing reactions, objections, "aha" moments) - After the batch, deliver a synthesis: top recurring themes, why users don't convert, pricing insights, objections, and clear recommendations Deliverables: - ~10–15 completed interviews with recordings + notes - A short insights report: patterns, verbatim quotes, pricing willingness, conversion blockers, recommended next steps Must-have: - Real experience with customer discovery / user research / qualitative interviews (you know how to ask open questions and shut up and listen) - Excellent spoken English, clear/neutral accent - Comfortable on the phone, building rapport quickly Big plus: - Bilingual English/Spanish — a large share of our leads are Spanish-speaking contractors - Familiarity with construction / contractors / trades - US/Canada-based (timezone + trust) To apply, please answer: 1. Describe your experience running customer discovery or user interviews. What's your approach to NOT leading the witness? 2. Do you speak Spanish fluently? (Yes/No) 3. Where are you based, and what's your spoken English (and Spanish) like? 4. Any experience interviewing contractors / tradespeople or in construction? 5. Are you available to call U.S. leads during U.S. business hours this week?
