About Hijabistas Hijabistas is a program created to empower young Muslim girls to feel confident, proud, and excited about wearing the hijab. Our content is primarily designed to speak to the mothers of young Muslim girls—helping them understand the emotional, social, and spiritual challenges their daughters may face while giving them tools, encouragement, and inspiration to support their daughters in building a positive relationship with hijab. We are looking for a talented Video Editor with a strong understanding of organic social media content who can help turn our footage, interviews, and longer-form videos into compelling short-form content that captures attention and resonates deeply with Muslim mothers and families. The Role You will edit short-form organic social videos, generally 20–60 seconds long, for platforms such as Instagram Reels, TikTok, YouTube Shorts, and other social channels. This is not simply a technical editing role. We are looking for someone who understands how to identify the strongest emotional moments, create compelling hooks, maintain viewer retention, and shape raw footage into content that feels authentic, culturally aware, and highly engaging. A strong candidate should be able to take a long interview, conversation, testimonial, or educational video and independently identify the moments most likely to perform well as short-form content. Responsibilities * Edit compelling 20–60 second organic social media videos * Review longer-form footage and identify the strongest short-form clips and storylines * Create captivating openings and hooks that encourage viewers to stop scrolling * Structure videos for strong pacing, retention, emotional impact, and clarity * Add thoughtful and visually engaging: * Motion graphics * Animated text * Captions and subtitles * On-screen headlines * Text overlays * Pattern interrupts * Visual emphasis * Find and incorporate relevant, high-quality B-roll * Use music, sound effects, pacing, and visual transitions appropriately without making content feel overly produced or inauthentic * Turn educational, emotional, testimonial, and conversational footage into polished social-first content * Maintain consistency with the Hijabistas brand, mission, tone, and audience * Understand how content should be framed specifically for mothers of young Muslim girls * Collaborate on creative direction and continuously improve edits based on performance and feedback What We’re Looking For * Strong experience editing organic short-form social media content * Excellent understanding of TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts editing styles * Ability to turn long-form footage into compelling short-form clips * Strong instinct for: * Hooks * Storytelling * Retention * Emotional pacing * Viral and shareable moments * Strong motion graphics and text animation skills * Excellent judgment when selecting B-roll * Ability to make content feel polished while still natural, authentic, and native to social media * Strong attention to detail * Ability to work independently and make good creative decisions without requiring frame-by-frame direction * Reliable communication and turnaround times Cultural Understanding Is Important Because Hijabistas serves Muslim girls and their families, the ideal editor should have a genuine understanding of—or strong familiarity with—Muslim communities, hijab, modesty, family dynamics, and the cultural and emotional sensitivities surrounding these topics. You should understand that this content is not simply “religious content.” It often deals with confidence, identity, belonging, peer pressure, motherhood, self-image, faith, and the relationship between mothers and daughters. The ability to recognize these nuances and edit content in a respectful, emotionally intelligent, and culturally appropriate way is extremely important. Bonus Skills * Strong social media copywriting * Ability to write engaging captions for Instagram, TikTok, and other platforms * Ability to suggest hooks, titles, and on-screen opening text * Experience working with Muslim, faith-based, parenting, youth, education, or mission-driven brands * Understanding of social media analytics and what drives watch time, retention, shares, saves, and comments * Ability to identify multiple strong short-form concepts from a single long-form video Compensation Structure This is a freelance, pay-per-video role. Compensation will be based on the estimated scope and time required for each video. Some videos may involve straightforward editing, while others may require more extensive clip selection, B-roll research, motion graphics, or creative development. We are looking to build an ongoing relationship with the right editor and expect consistent recurring work for a strong fit.
