Job summary Category: Video Editing Fixed price: Per-video flat rate (please bid your rate per finished video) Length: First video is a paid test. Successful test → ongoing relationship (6+ months, intent 1+ years) Level of expertise: INTERMEDIATE/ADVANCED Project type: ONGOING English level: Native / Bilingual or ADVANCED Main locations: WORLDWIDE Niche: Societal Autopsy/Investigative Documentary Volume: 2–4 videos per month Length of videos: 15–25 minutes Turnaround: 5-7 days per standard video Duration: Long-term (1+ years) About the channel Power & Profit is a long-form societal autopsy documentary channel. We dig into things that are destroying the world and society at large – whether it’s Hollywood, BlackRock or the UK PM Kier Starmer, we will focus on anything that is causing a net negative and break it down fully. Videos are faceless and narration-led. The voiceover does the heavy lifting; the edit has to make a 15–20 minute essay feel like a thriller. Tone is investigative and credible, but dramatic too. The editing style we want to replicate We want our videos to look and feel like the best of Moon-Real and MagnatesMedia. If you don't know those channels, please watch a few before applying. Primary references: • Moon-Real - cultural/business essays (e.g. 'Why The CIA Created Call of Duty', 'How Instagram Changed Society Forever', 'Fight Club: A Warning For Men'). • MagnatesMedia - corporate exposés (e.g. 'The INSANE Truth About OpenAI', 'The Untold TRUTH Of Nintendo', 'ROLEX: The Most Secretive Business In The World'). • Secondary reference: Jake Tran - for pacing, statistical-shock framing, and escalating-revelation structure. Specifically, we want the following elements baked into every edit: • Punchy hook in the first 15 seconds - text overlays, fast cuts, a statistical hammer or a 'wait, what?' visual. • Constant visual movement: subtle zooms / Ken Burns on stills, parallax, motion-tracked text, no static frames for more than ~3 seconds during narration. • Heavy use of archival news clips, corporate footage, product B-roll and stock - layered, not just one clip per line. You will need to procure the footage for each video – we have a Standard Operating Procedure for Clip Sourcing we can send you to aid you in this process. • Strategic meme inserts and pop-culture cutaways for tonal beats where the script dictates - sparingly, never cringe. Think MagnatesMedia's quick visual punchlines, not TikTok-tier reaction images. • On-screen text emphasis for key numbers, names, dates and quotes. Bold, sans-serif, often with a colour accent (red, gold, cyan). • Sound design: whooshes, low booms, subtle riser builds into chapter breaks, appropriate SFX on financial reveals, glitch/static on controversy beats, etc. • Background music that swells and recedes with the narrative - investigative, cinematic, no soulless elevator music. Alternatively, if you do use plainer music, ensure it fits the video and doesn’t conflict with the delivery e.g. don’t use trap music for a deep dive into a 1st world business video. • Charts, graphs and on-screen data visualisations for revenue, market share, growth curves. Animated in, not flat PNGs. What we'll provide for each video • Final locked script. • Professional voiceover audio. • A thumbnail / title direction so you know the framing the video has to deliver on. • Channel outro to attach to the end of the video once you’re put it together. Your responsibilities per video • Edit the voiceover into a clean, tightly-paced documentary cut (sometimes this will already be done on our end, we will let you know if so). • Layer the archival footage, news clips, corporate B-roll, product shots, stock footage and images you source in the same way our main competition does and using our baseline SOP document as a core reference (this is the bare minimum standard we would want these videos doing to though, not the top end) – ensuring the lot falls under YouTube’s fair use policies accordingly, and is properly transformed. • Use motion graphics and clever editing to ensure motion is basically always happening on-screen, and retention (Average View Duration) is high for viewers. • Add background music, build music beds that match the narrative arc (intro, build, controversy, resolution) – different music for each section. • Add sound design: SFX, whooshes, risers, impacts, ambience. • Add transitions, text overlays, source citations on screen where raw footage or direct quotes are used. • Build simple data visualisations and animated charts for financials, growth, market share. • Source and integrate meme / pop-culture cutaways where the script flags them or where a tonal beat would benefit – we typically provide the B-roll for these. • Master final audio (consistent loudness, no clipping, broadcast-ready). • Deliver in 1080p (4K if source allows), H.264 MP4, with project file backed up. Copyright & fair use - non-negotiable Our content covers real companies and public figures. We need an editor who genuinely understands fair use on YouTube - not someone who just hopes for the best. • Clips must be transformed: short, recontextualised, with commentary running over them. No long unbroken stretches of copyrighted footage. • No copyrighted music, ever - even 'just under the talking'. Licensed library only (Epidemic, Artlist, Musicbed, Storyblocks etc.). • Original brand assets (logos, product shots) used only in editorial / critical context. • If you're unsure whether a clip is safe, ask before cutting it in. Required tools & resources • Adobe Premiere Pro (preferred), DaVinci Resolve or Apple Final Cut Pro. After Effects or an equivalent program is required for motion graphics and chart animation. • Active subscription to Storyblocks, Artgrid, Envato or equivalent for stock footage / SFX / music. • Reliable hardware capable of handling 1080p/4K multi-layer timelines. • Stable workflow for delivery (Google Drive preferred – we use this to deposit the B Roll clips you’ll use). Must-haves to apply • Advanced video editing skills with a documentary / long-form essay sensibility. • Previous experience editing for YouTube channels - faceless / narration-led strongly preferred. • Demonstrable understanding of fair use in YouTube's monetised environment. • Native / bilingual or advanced English (you need to feel the script's tone, irony and emphasis). • Creativity and resourcefulness - finding the right archival clips, the right memes, the right soundtracks and effects is half the job. • Reliable communicator; meets deadlines; takes feedback without ego. • After Effects for motion graphics, animated charts, kinetic typography. • Background in business / finance / tech / gaming content (helps with visual instincts on these topics). • Audio mixing chops (Premiere Audio / Audition / Resolve Fairlight). • Familiarity with YouTube retention dynamics - pattern interrupts, pacing dips, hook re-triggers. How to apply Please include all of the following - applications missing any of these will not be reviewed: • Your bid per finished video (15–25 min length). • 2–3 links to recent long-form / documentary-style edits you've personally cut. If it's a team project, say exactly what you did. • A short note (3–5 sentences) on what you'd change or add about your favourite MagnatesMedia or Moon-Real video - show us how you think about edits, not just execute them. • Your turnaround time per 20-minute video. • Tools and stock subscriptions you have access to. • Start your application with the phrase "SOP Building" - so we know you've read the post properly.
