Political & Breaking News Research VA — U.S. & Canada We are looking for a high-level Political & Current Events Research VA whose primary job is finding the hottest topics every single day across the United States and Canada. This is NOT a basic VA position. We need someone who is constantly plugged into breaking news, politics, Trump, the White House, Congress, U.S. government, Canadian politics, major world events affecting North America, and viral current events. Your job is to find the story early, verify it, source it, and then dig deeper than everyone else. YOUR DAILY RESPONSIBILITIES Every day you will: * Find the hottest and fastest-moving stories * Closely monitor Donald Trump and the Trump administration * Monitor major U.S. political figures, Congress, courts, elections, policies, and government developments * Monitor Canadian federal politics and major Canadian political figures * Find major breaking/current events outside politics when they are dominating the news cycle * Track stories beginning to trend on social media * Monitor what major political/news YouTube channels are covering * Identify stories with the strongest YouTube potential * Provide credible sources for EVERY topic * Verify important facts before submitting anything * Find original speeches, interviews, press conferences, documents, court filings, government reports, and social posts when available * Separate confirmed facts, allegations, opinions, predictions, and speculation * Find relevant video clips and supporting material our content team can use MOST IMPORTANT — DIG DEEPER We DO NOT want someone who simply searches Google News and sends us the top five headlines. We want a researcher. If everyone is talking about a story, your job is to figure out: What aren’t they talking about? Look for: * Overlooked details * Previous statements that contradict or add context to what’s happening now * Old interviews that suddenly become relevant * Government documents * Court filings * Executive orders or legislation * Financial/economic data * Statistics * Historical context * Connections between current and previous events * Important timelines * Full context behind viral clips * What happened immediately before or after a viral statement * Details buried deep inside reports/articles * Developments that could change the direction of the story * What both sides are claiming — and what the actual evidence shows We want our audience to regularly think: “Wow… I didn’t hear about that anywhere else.” But everything must still be accurate and sourced. SOURCING & FACT-CHECKING IS REQUIRED NO UNSOURCED CLAIMS. Every important factual claim must have a source. Whenever possible, prioritize PRIMARY SOURCES: * Government websites/documents * White House statements * Official Canadian government sources * Congressional records * Legislation * Court documents * Executive orders * Official statistics/data * Full speeches * Full interviews * Press conferences * Original social media posts Then use multiple reputable news organizations as secondary confirmation. Never treat a viral post, headline, AI-generated answer, or someone’s opinion as confirmed fact. If something cannot be independently verified, clearly label it as unverified, alleged, disputed, or developing. We would rather receive a slightly slower accurate story than a fast story filled with misinformation. DAILY TOPIC FORMAT For every topic you submit, we want: TOPIC: What happened? WHY IT’S HOT: Why is this story gaining attention right now? KEY VERIFIED FACTS: Give us the most important confirmed information. DEEPER ANGLE: What important information are most people missing? TIMELINE/CONTEXT: What happened before this that viewers need to understand? WHY IT MATTERS: What could this mean for the U.S., Canada, Trump, the government, economy, elections, etc.? WHAT COULD HAPPEN NEXT: What developments should we watch? YOUTUBE ANGLE: What is the strongest angle for turning this into an interesting video? PRIMARY SOURCES: Direct links to original documents, statements, speeches, interviews, data, etc. SECONDARY SOURCES: Multiple credible news sources confirming the information. VIDEO/CLIP SOURCES: Relevant speeches, interviews, press conferences, news clips, social posts, etc. WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR You should: * Have strong knowledge of U.S. politics * Understand the current Trump administration and major ongoing political stories * Have knowledge of Canadian politics * Follow current events DAILY * Be obsessed with research * Be extremely fast when breaking news happens * Know how to find information beyond basic Google searches * Understand how to search government databases and original documents * Know how to fact-check political claims * Understand the difference between fact and opinion * Recognize misleading headlines and out-of-context clips * Understand what makes a story clickable and interesting on YouTube * Be able to identify stories before they become oversaturated * Be reliable and available consistently SPEED + ACCURACY Politics moves FAST. We need someone who can recognize when a story is beginning to explode and immediately start researching it. But being first means nothing if the information is wrong. Speed + Accuracy + Deep Research = What we’re looking for. Pick ONE of those stories and show us a deeper angle, overlooked fact, document, statement, or piece of context that most people aren’t discussing 9. Cite your sources for everything you submit LONG-TERM OPPORTUNITY This is intended to be a long-term position for the right person. We want someone who eventually becomes the eyes and ears of our political content operation. You should wake up already knowing what’s happening. You should know when a story is heating up. You should recognize an overlooked angle. You should know where to look for the original evidence. And most importantly: FIND THE STORY. VERIFY THE FACTS. CITE THE SOURCES. DIG DEEPER THAN EVERYONE ELSE.
