YouTube Video Editor & Channel Support Assistant (Part-Time/Freelance) About the Role I'm looking for a detail-oriented YouTube Video Editor to help produce thoughtful, high-quality content focused on books, reading culture, journalling, writing, literary commentary, author interviews, bookshop visits, reading vlogs, and occasional stationery content. Videos are typically 30-60 minutes long before editing, with occasional longer vlog-style content. The ideal candidate understands YouTube storytelling, audience retention, SEO, and thumbnail design (not just editing). Responsibilities Video Editing Edit long-form YouTube videos including: Reading vlogs Monthly wrap-ups Book reviews Literary commentary Author and bookseller interviews Bookshop visits Journalling and stationery content Writing-related videos Editing should include: Removing mistakes, pauses, repetition, and dead space Improving pacing and viewer retention Maintaining a thoughtful, editorial-style feel Light colour correction Audio balancing and clean-up Adding background music where appropriate Adding titles, lower thirds, chapter cards, and captions where relevant Incorporating B-roll and supporting footage naturally throughout videos Creating smooth transitions without over-editing Thumbnail Design Create YouTube thumbnails that: Are clean and professional Follow current YouTube best practices Use strong visual hierarchy Remain readable on mobile devices Align with an established channel aesthetic Encourage clicks without feeling clickbait Must be willing to test different thumbnail approaches and iterate based on performance. YouTube SEO Provide: SEO-optimised video titles SEO-friendly descriptions Relevant hashtags Keyword suggestions Chapter timestamps Video tag recommendations Understanding of: Search-based content Browse-based content Suggested-video optimisation Audience intent is highly desirable. Content Packaging Help identify: Strong hooks Title ideas Thumbnail concepts Search opportunities Trending angles within books, reading culture, journalling, and writing content The goal is not only to edit videos but to help package them for discoverability. Workflow Organise footage efficiently Meet agreed deadlines Communicate proactively Accept feedback and revisions professionally Maintain consistent file naming and project organisation Preferred Experience Experience editing content in one or more of the following niches: BookTube Reading vlogs Literary content Journalling Stationery Writing channels Educational YouTube content Lifestyle vlogs Understanding BookTube culture is a significant advantage. Software Proficiency in at least one of: Adobe Premiere Pro Final Cut Pro DaVinci Resolve Capcut (preferred) Experience with: Canva Photoshop Capcut Thumbnail design tools is beneficial. Ideal Candidate You're someone who: Understands YouTube beyond editing Thinks about retention and viewer experience Appreciates books, reading, writing, and thoughtful content Can recognise what makes viewers click Has a good eye for storytelling Can work independently and suggest improvements Deliverables Per Video For each video, provide: ✓ Edited video ready for upload ✓ Thumbnail (1–3 variations if requested) ✓ SEO title suggestions ✓ SEO description ✓ Relevant hashtags ✓ Chapter timestamps ✓ Exported files in agreed formats ✓short form video for shorts/tiktok
