YouTube Script Editor / Story Editor
Worldwide
We’re looking for a sharp, detail-oriented YouTube Script Editor to help improve long-form documentary-style scripts for aviation, travel, and business-focused YouTube videos. The scripts are already researched and drafted through a mix of AI-assisted writing and human editing. Your job is to give them a final editorial pass: making the writing flow better, removing repetition, cutting anything that feels generic or AI-written, improving pacing, and making sure the script sounds natural when spoken out loud. This is not a pure fact-checking role, although a good eye for factual accuracy is important. The main focus is editorial: turning a decent script into a much stronger, more engaging YouTube script. What you’ll do - Edit long-form YouTube scripts for clarity, flow, rhythm, and pacing. - Rewrite awkward or robotic sections so they sound more natural and conversational. - Remove obvious “AI tells” such as repetition, generic phrasing, over-explaining, and unnatural transitions. - Strengthen hooks, section openings, transitions, and payoffs. - Make scripts feel more human, confident, and watchable. - Cut unnecessary repetition or filler without losing important context. - Flag factual claims that seem questionable, vague, exaggerated, or unsupported. - Suggest where a script needs more tension, curiosity, explanation, or simplification. - Preserve the creator’s voice rather than rewriting everything from scratch. - Edit with YouTube retention in mind: keeping viewers engaged from beginning to end. What we’re looking for - Strong writing and editing skills, especially for spoken-word content. - A good instinct for what makes a YouTube script engaging. - Ability to make writing sound conversational without making it sloppy. - Comfortable working with AI-assisted drafts and improving them substantially. - Excellent attention to detail. - Able to spot repetition, weak structure, clunky phrasing, and unclear explanations. - Comfortable editing scripts about aviation, airlines, travel, business, and industry stories. - Able to work independently and make smart editorial decisions. -Reliable with deadlines and open to feedback. Nice to have - Experience editing YouTube scripts, documentaries, explainers, or video essays. Interest in aviation, travel, transport, business, or geopolitics. - Experience fact-checking or working with research-heavy content. - Understanding of YouTube pacing, retention, hooks, and storytelling. The ideal person The ideal candidate is someone who can take a script that is already 70–80% there and make it feel polished, human, and compelling. You should be comfortable asking: “Would someone actually say this out loud?” and “Would a viewer keep watching here?” We don’t need someone who simply corrects grammar. We need someone who can improve the script as a piece of storytelling. Example tasks You may be given a draft script and asked to: - Improve the opening hook. - Cut repetitive explanations. - Rewrite robotic paragraphs. - Make technical information easier to understand. - Add smoother transitions between sections. - Flag claims that need checking. - Make the script sound more like a confident human narrator. - Leave comments explaining bigger structural issues. This is a remote freelance role. Scripts will usually be shared in Google Docs. You’ll be expected to edit directly in the document, leave comments where useful, and return a polished version by the agreed deadline. Please include examples of previous writing or editing work, especially YouTube scripts, video essays, documentary scripts, newsletters, or long-form editorial work.
