YouTube Video Editor & 2D Animator
Worldwide
About The Channel: I am a civil engineer and the owner of a civil engineering firm based in DC. My channel breaks down the intense, expensive realities of infrastructure, stormwater management, land surveying, and real estate development. We make dirt, pipes, and right-of-ways exciting. Our brand is what I like to call "girly engineering"—highly technical, structurally accurate physics explained with high energy, sarcasm, and pop-culture references. The Workflow: We have a collaborative, multi-step process for every video: The Base Cut: I provide the raw A-roll (green screen/studio footage with a few takes). You assemble the video, dialing in the pacing, cuts, and cinematic flow. The Storyboard: Once the pacing is locked, I review it and provide a highly detailed, timestamped storyboard mapping out the exact visual aids, animations, and engineering physics needed. The Visual Layer: You bring the storyboard to life using animations, B-roll, kinetic typography, and sound effects. Assets & Creative Freedom: I will provide custom AI-generated clips alongside my storyboard notes. Ideally, you can just drop these directly into the timeline as assets to save time. However, since some of these engineering concepts are complex, you can also use them as visual references to build your own 2D animations. Creative freedom is highly encouraged! As long as the engineering physics are accurate and the visual makes sense for the topic, I love it when editors bring their own ideas, memes, and visual flair to the table. The Visual Style & Pacing (Please Review!): Reference Video: https://youtu.be/2Z07hICUe74 This is my last upload. While it performed well, I will be attaching a screenshot of our audience analytics to this job post so you can see a clear retention drop-off when viewers do not get a frequent visual cue. Aggressive Pacing: To fix that drop-off, we need constant 3-5 second visual changes to keep homeowners and investors locked in. I prefer heavy use of Over-The-Shoulder (OTS) graphics so I remain on screen as much as possible, though full cutaways are fine when the physics demand it. Accidental Definitions: When I naturally drop heavy engineering jargon, I want lightning-fast, 1-second text pop-ups on screen to define the word without breaking the flow or slowing down the video. Modern "Reading Rainbow": Heavy use of 2D animations, visual metaphors, and kinetic typography to explain complex thermodynamics and infrastructure. High-Energy Typography: We use high-fashion/runway style text pop-ups and AI voice-overs to introduce historical figures and scientists. Color Palette: Strict adherence to our brand colors (Sera Teal and Sera Gold). Requirements: Expertise in Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects (or equivalent software). Ability to balance strict technical/physics notes with your own creative editing style. A strong understanding of YouTube retention tactics (3-5 second visual changes). Excellent communication skills and turnaround times. To Apply: Please send a link to your reel and specifically highlight any educational, fast-paced, or heavily animated videos you have edited. Start your cover letter with the phrase "Let's engineer something" so I know you actually read this post.
