YouTube Video Editor for True Crime Channel
Worldwide
I’m looking for a highly skilled YouTube video editor for a long-form channel in the true crime / documentary space. This is not a basic editing role. I need someone who understands how to shape a story for YouTube retention, not just assemble footage. The right editor knows how to build tension, use source material intentionally, pace a narrative around voiceover, and make a video feel clean, deliberate, and emotionally grounded. The videos are voiceover-led and typically run in the long-form YouTube range. I already have a clear creative direction for the channel, so I’m looking for an editor who can execute within an established style while also bringing strong editorial judgment to the table. What I need from the editor: Edit long-form YouTube videos in a way that supports retention and clear story progression Build strong openings that hook viewers early and create tension right away Use real/source-based footage intentionally and avoid relying on generic filler Match visuals to the story progression and voiceover in a way that feels deliberate, not random or overly literal Keep the edit clean, polished, and emotionally appropriate for the topic Maintain strong pacing through music, clip selection, and visual rhythm Incorporate revisions accurately and consistently Communicate clearly and proactively throughout the project This role is a fit for someone who: Understands documentary and true crime editing Knows how to edit for viewer retention on YouTube Can make thoughtful editorial decisions without needing excessive hand-holding Values clear communication and reliability Can follow direction while still bringing strong instincts to the work I am not looking for someone who simply adds clips to match words in a script. I need someone who understands sequencing, tone, and narrative flow. Communication and deadlines matter a lot to me. If something is unclear, ask. If timing changes, communicate early. I value reliability just as much as editing ability. This will likely start with a paid test project or trial assignment, with the opportunity for ongoing work if it’s a strong fit. Required Skills and Qualifications Proven experience editing long-form YouTube videos Strong portfolio in true crime, documentary, news-style, or voiceover-led storytelling content Strong understanding of pacing, retention, and viewer psychology on YouTube Ability to build compelling intros/openings that create immediate tension and curiosity Strong story judgment and visual sequencing skills Experience sourcing, organizing, and editing archival/news/source-based footage Ability to keep edits clean and professional without overusing generic cinematic filler Strong command of music, sound design, and overall tone High attention to detail Ability to follow an established format and implement feedback carefully Reliable communication and deadline management Proficiency in professional editing software such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, or DaVinci Resolve
