Zabbix Engineer

Position Summary We are seeking a Zabbix Platform Engineer to support and enhance a large-scale enterprise monitoring platform serving hundreds of customer environments. This role is responsible for maintaining the organization’s observability platform, improving monitoring standards, automating operational processes, and ensuring high platform reliability across Windows, Linux, Unix, SAP, and cloud workloads. The ideal candidate combines systems administration experience with monitoring platform expertise and automation skills to deliver scalable, proactive observability solutions. ⸻ Responsibilities Zabbix Platform Administration * Administer and maintain enterprise Zabbix monitoring infrastructure. * Configure and optimize monitoring for Windows, Linux, Unix, SAP, databases, middleware, and cloud services. * Create and maintain hosts, templates, triggers, discovery rules, dashboards, graphs, and alerting policies. * Perform Zabbix platform upgrades, patching, and lifecycle management. * Troubleshoot monitoring performance, agent communication, and data collection issues. ⸻ Monitoring & Observability * Design monitoring strategies for enterprise applications and infrastructure. * Develop standardized monitoring templates and best practices. * Configure proactive alerting to reduce false positives and alert fatigue. * Build dashboards providing operational visibility into system health, performance, and availability. * Continuously improve monitoring coverage across enterprise environments. ⸻ Automation & Engineering * Automate monitoring deployment using REST APIs and scripting. * Develop PowerShell, Bash, or Python scripts to streamline operational tasks. * Build automated onboarding processes for new monitored systems. * Standardize configuration management across environments. * Improve monitoring efficiency through reusable automation. ⸻ Infrastructure Support Support monitoring across: * Windows Server * Linux (RHEL, Ubuntu) * Unix * SAP environments * PostgreSQL * Microsoft SQL Server * VMware * Cloud-hosted workloads * OpenShift and Kubernetes environments (future migration) ⸻ Database Administration * Maintain PostgreSQL databases supporting the Zabbix platform. * Monitor database performance and optimize queries. * Perform backups and recovery activities. * Support database upgrades and maintenance. ⸻ Incident & Problem Management * Investigate monitoring failures and platform issues. * Troubleshoot agent connectivity problems. * Resolve infrastructure monitoring gaps. * Support production incidents involving monitoring services. * Perform root cause analysis and implement preventive improvements. ⸻ Cross-Functional Collaboration Partner with: * Infrastructure Engineers * Linux Administrators * Windows Administrators * Cloud Engineers * Database Administrators * Application Support Teams * Operations Teams to: * Onboard new services into monitoring. * Improve observability standards. * Implement monitoring best practices. * Support production environments. ⸻ Required Qualifications * Experience administering Zabbix in enterprise environments. * Strong Linux system administration skills. * Windows Server administration experience. * Experience with PostgreSQL. * Knowledge of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, SNMP). * Experience creating dashboards and monitoring templates. * Strong troubleshooting skills. * Experience working with REST APIs. * Scripting experience using PowerShell, Bash, or Python. ⸻ Preferred Qualifications * OpenShift * Kubernetes * Red Hat Satellite * VMware * SAP monitoring * Cloud monitoring (AWS or Azure) * Git * Infrastructure as Code * Monitoring automation * CI/CD integration
