About the Role This role is a strong fit for a versatile writer who can shift between social copy, newsletter writing, media outreach, thought leadership, and legislative messaging without losing clarity or voice. The work supports a high-visibility nonprofit education advocacy client and requires strong editorial judgment. What You Will Be Doing Writing platform-specific social media content for LinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram, tailored to distinct audiences including legislators, community members, and families Drafting two audience-specific newsletters: one for legislators and policy stakeholders, one for families and community members Writing and pitching earned media stories TV, radio and print Drafting media pitches and press materials tied to key moments in the legislative calendar, school performance data releases, and organizational milestones Supporting the development of bylined thought leadership content Editing and formatting testimonials from teachers, school leaders, and parents for use across media, legislative materials, and social content Writing website copy updates and targeted landing page content Developing legislative messaging, talking points, and leave-behind materials for the session preparation workstream Supporting crisis communications by drafting holding statements and pre-approved response templates Ideal Candidate Years of content writing or copywriting experience, with demonstrated work in PR, communications, or nonprofit advocacy Strong ability to write in multiple voices and adapt tone for different audiences (policy, community, media) Experience writing media pitches and press materials that have resulted in earned media placements Familiarity with writing for social platforms with distinct content strategies per channel Comfort writing about education policy, equity, or public advocacy topics Experience writing newsletters with measurable engagement goals Proficient in Slack and Notion for team collaboration and content calendar management Actively uses AI writing tools (ChatGPT, Claude, Jasper, or equivalent) to improve speed and output quality — you understand how to prompt, edit, and fact-check AI-assisted content Portfolio required: Please include links to relevant writing samples
