iOS Swift Developer for Messaging App

Summary

I run a messaging app for iOS and Android. The app has been live for several years and is already working in production. The iOS version was originally built some time ago and has only received light maintenance since then. I now want to modernize the iOS app and bring it up to date with current iOS, Xcode, and Apple best practices. This is not a full rewrite. The app already exists, and the goal is to improve and update the existing implementation, especially around the media workflow. The main areas to work on are: * Capturing live photos / selfies directly inside the app * Creating and sending photo albums with up to 9 photos * Recording and sending videos up to 3 minutes long directly in the app * Reliably compressing and uploading media in the background, even when the user leaves the app My main focus is finding the right balance between: * file size * media quality * upload speed * stability across different iOS devices The Android version was updated recently, so the goal is to bring the iOS experience and technical quality closer to that updated Android implementation. What I’m looking for I’m looking for an experienced iOS Swift developer who can: * review the existing iOS project and the current media capture / upload flow * modernize the in-app camera workflow for photos and videos * work with live capture only, with no photo library import * keep or improve the existing “up to 9 photos per album” behavior * improve or reimplement image and video compression so that quality and file size are consistent with Android * ensure reliable background uploads for photos and videos * update the project setup, iOS SDK targets, and third-party libraries / Firebase SDKs to current recommended versions * make any necessary adjustments for current iOS versions and devices, especially iOS 17+ What I’m looking for in a developer * Strong experience with Swift and production iOS apps * Solid understanding of camera features and media handling on iOS * Experience with large media files, compression, and upload workflows * Experience with background uploads and `URLSession` background transfers is a big plus * Experience with Firebase / storage solutions is helpful, but not required Please apply only if you have already done similar work before, such as camera capture, media uploads, compression, or background tasks.
