Summary

I'm launching an Etsy shop selling 3D printed products and digital print files, and I'm commissioning 6 original designs across three product lines: Montessori-style toys, baby milestone keepsakes, and seasonal decor. I have detailed creative briefs for each (attached). They define the problem, the constraints, and what success looks like — but the design itself is yours. I'm hiring for creativity and functional design skill, not CAD drafting to my spec. HARDWARE TARGET Bambu Lab A1 with AMS (4-color), PLA. Design for this machine class — tolerances, support-minimal geometry, and multi-color where the brief calls for it. SCOPE Starting with 2 designs — your pick of the six briefs (the listed budget covers this first milestone). The remaining 4 follow as additional milestones for the right person, and beyond that this becomes ongoing work: expansion packs and seasonal variants for whatever sells. DELIVERABLES PER DESIGN - Print-ready STLs (and 3MF with color assignments where multi-color) - Editable source files (STEP, Fusion 360, or equivalent) — required, not optional; two designs need parametric name personalization - For designs with moving/fitting parts: tolerance verification via test print, with one tolerance-revision round included BUDGET $100–175 per design based on complexity — functional toy designs at the top of that range. Starting with 2 designs, 4 more to follow for the right person. RIGHTS This is work-for-hire with full IP transfer, covering both physical products and resale of the digital files themselves. A short agreement will be signed before work starts. Please only apply if you're comfortable with that — it's priced into the budget. TO APPLY, INCLUDE: 1. Portfolio link 2. At least one example of a FUNCTIONAL design you've made — moving, threading, or fitting parts 3. Which two briefs you'd start with, and a sentence on why DESIGN BRIEFS — 3D PRINT PRODUCT LINE All designs target: Bambu Lab A1 with AMS (4 colors max), PLA. Muted/matte palette (sage, terracotta, cream, dusty blue) unless the brief says otherwise. All designs must be fully original — no branded characters, logos, or recognizable third-party product designs, including "inspired by" versions with identifiable silhouettes. Before designing, spend a few minutes browsing current Etsy bestsellers in your chosen categories — your design should be recognizably different from what's already ranking. BRIEF 1 — MONTESSORI: THE MECHANISM TOY The problem: Wooden Montessori toys can't easily do moving parts. Design a toddler fine-motor toy built around a mechanism only 3D printing does well — threading, screwing, interlocking, ratcheting, or press-fit. Your choice of mechanism and form. Constraints: Ages 3+ — no piece smaller than a 1.25" x 2.25" small-parts test cylinder (hard safety requirement). Support-free printing strongly preferred. Must survive toddler-force repeated use: chunky threads, thick walls, no thin snap-fit tabs. Success looks like: A parent who buys wooden toys sees this and thinks "wood can't do that" — not "that's plastic." BRIEF 2 — MONTESSORI: THE MODULAR SORTING SYSTEM The problem: Sorting/stacking toys are a top Montessori seller, but wooden ones are fixed sets. Design a sorting or stacking system that's modular — pieces combine, nest, or expand in ways a fixed set can't, so parents can buy expansion packs later. Constraints: Same safety, material, and palette rules as Brief 1. Base set prints economically (target under ~150g filament). Modularity is a requirement, not a suggestion — the geometry must make future expansion packs natural. Success looks like: The listing can honestly say "grows with your child," and add-on packs sell. BRIEF 3 — MILESTONE: THE MONTHLY DISC SET, NAME-READY The problem: Wooden milestone discs (months 1-12, used in monthly baby photos) are a proven bestseller. Design our version with two things wooden ones lack: a distinctive sculptural style that reads in photos, and built-in name personalization (parametric text region or snap-in nameplate — your call). Constraints: Must read legibly in a phone photo at arm's length — bold numerals, strong contrast. Batch-printable. One cohesive style, with base geometry adaptable for future themed variants. Success looks like: A parent scrolling thumbnails stops because it doesn't look like every wooden disc set. BRIEF 4 — MILESTONE: BEYOND THE DISC The problem: Everyone sells discs and cards. Design a milestone keepsake format that isn't one — something 3D that marks a first year in a way flat products can't. (Example directions, purely to illustrate: a piece-per-month object that completes at month 12; a display stand; an heirloom object with monthly elements. Your idea is the point.) Constraints: This is a parent-handled photo prop / keepsake, not a baby toy — design and label accordingly. Should disassemble or pack reasonably flat for shipping. Name personalization strongly preferred. Success looks like: It photographs beautifully and nothing like it exists in the milestone category. BRIEF 5 — SEASONAL: HALLOWEEN HERO ITEM The problem: Design an original Halloween decor piece where 3-4 color printing is visibly the point, not an afterthought. Original style only. Constraints: Shelf/table scale. Under ~8 hours print time per unit so batch production is viable. Design a style with an obvious "family" — a second and third piece in the same style should be easy to imagine. Success looks like: Identifiably OUR style — someone could recognize a second piece from the same shop. BRIEF 6 — SEASONAL: BABY'S FIRST CHRISTMAS CROSSOVER The problem: "Baby's First Christmas" sits at the intersection of two of our lines. Design an ornament or small keepsake with name + year personalization built into the geometry. Constraints: Ornament-weight, batch-printable, personalization must be parametric — the text region has to survive both "Mia" and "Alexandria" without breaking the composition. Original iconography only. Success looks like: Personalized, giftable, and repeatable every year with just the year changed.
