OVERVIEW: I’m a practical hands-on engineer, by degree, and imaginative to a fault by natural inclination. I have broad and deep design and manufacturing experience with a variety of end products, including but not limited to medical devices, high-end audio electronics, and musical instruments. I also have a great deal of personal experience with building & construction, and with hydraulic systems. — — — — — — — — — — — — MY 1st PRIORITY: I could bore you to death with my expertise in creative ideation, complex 3D modeling, 3D printing, plastic injection molding, sheet metal, materials, mechanisms, stepper motors, fixtures, arduino systems, and fabrication with fabrics & foams. I could brag that my work has been exhibited at MoMA (really, see portfolio). But I'm much more interested in hearing what YOU are up to, and to see if I can help with YOUR project — because over time I've learned that successful collaboration is the best reward. — — — — — — — — — — — — SKILLS AND ORIENTATION: SKILLS (design-wise): Very good 3D CAD chops (Creo, Solidworks, Blender). Lots of complex and successful modeling, injection molding, and various other manufacturing examples to show & tell about, including arduino microcontroller system design. SKILLS (prototype-wise): My particular standout talent seems to be the ability to make, fix, find, and/or modify almost anything needed, really fast, with my own hands and minimal equipment. With my FDM and SLA printers, there isn't much I can't do. Probably faster and cheaper than is usually expected. If needed, I can sew fairly well too. — — — — — — — — — — — — WORK STYLE: Many people I've worked with have called me "MacGyver" because at some critical point in a project they came to understand the unusual value I usually bring to whatever the particular task. My default mode is usually to do most everything myself, but I've recently found it's even better to work with like-minded collaborators — which is why I'm looking for interesting projects to help with on Upwork. My guess is that if you've read this far, you are potentially a like-minded collaborator. Let's talk and find out! — — — — — — — — — — — —Injection Mold Design

Are you looking for a Senior Product Design Engineer that has been creating designs for over 30+ years using Solidworks? A Product Design Engineer where their core expertise skillset is designing parts for Injection molding but also has a strong mechanical aptitude, great at brainstorming and also has knowledge of many other process’s? A person that knows what it takes to create a moldable design that results in a error free, fully parametrically and fully constrained CAD model when we are ready to launch? I am your guy. After working for one of the largest injection molders in the United States for 29 years I decided to take my knowledge to the open market and go off on my own as a full time independent contractor. I built a solid foundation by beginning my career in the trades and on the shop floor, building molds, running & programming CNC’s, Edms, Bridgeport's, as well as setting up and running Rapid Prototyping equipment. After gaining a in depth knowledge of what goes into a the procedures that will ultimately make the parts, I left the shop to chase my end dream of being a Product Design Engineer. Armed with the first hand knowledge of what makes a bad designs I began incorporating all the shop knowledge gained into each and every design that has followed. That shop experience laid the ground work to fully understand and appreciate the importance and impact of not following the basic design principles of plastic part design. Parting lines, shutoffs, nominal walls, rib wall ratios, poor steel conditions, while still having enough land to eject a part are all key items to that are often overlooked. Ask your prospective designers if they fully understand all of those items. The tool shops don’t “just take care of those things” as some will tell you. I include all those items into my designs leaving as big of a processing window as possible for the molder so that they can focus on fine tuning the press for speed (aka yield) vs using the processing window to chase part design issues. Ie Sink, warp, etc… Another service I offer is to do nothing more than review your designers design for DFM and provide feedback on what needs refinement. While a good number of my clients have been fortune 500 companies, I won’t hesitate to work with small companies, independent inventors or startups. I am passionate about designing and enjoy the variety. We will start by getting a NDA in place and then have a candid conversation to paint clear expectations for both parties as I gain solid understanding of what your asking for and where your at in the process. If I don't have the proper skillsets, I will excuse myself from the opportunity. From there I will get to work and begin creating the design from whatever point its currently at. This is not a side hustle for me. This is what I do for a living. I am available during all hours of the day, and will hop on a Zoom call at a moments notice if I am available. I am a certified Solidworks professional (CSWP) and have a mid-west(New Richmond WI) farm boy work ethic. I do whatever it take to get the job done by the required deadline. I have hundreds of parts on the market in every market and would be glad to share more detail about them during our interview process. I have stuffed hundreds of circuit boards into plastic and magnesium molded enclosures over the years for all the markets. Sport and Rec, Farm, Military, Consumer, Medical and Automotive you name it. I have a strong manufacturing background and I share several patents on several complex products with others. I own my license of Solidworks and can accommodate whatever version you wish to work in. Worried about remote design work? I have proven that remote designing can work with excellent communication. Should I not be able to pick up the phone, I will always respond to a phone call, email or text within two hours even if it’s just to tell you when I can address your question. I won’t hesitate to jump on Zoom call to work thru whatever is needed. I have clients in California, Massachusetts, Texas, Idaho, Florida, WI, MN, Nebraska, & the Dakota’s, I have never met most clients in person, and most have come to me thru referrals which I feel speaks volumes for the work I have done for previous clients. One of my recent designs, helped my customer land a deal with Microsoft and the US government worth $22 Billion dollars. A few years back I revamped a security line of products and took 1st place at CES two years in a row. I am willing to arrive onsite for major kickoffs or milestone reviews when / if needed. I have an established network of supporting manufactures that can make the transition of design into production a smooth transition if you have no clue where to go after the design is complete. I always offer an initial no obligation design review if a CAD model currently exists. Shoot me a message for a pdf portfolio of career projects I look forward to discussing your project with you.Injection Mold Design

As a Manufacturing Engineer, my duties are to design not only the parts that customers need, but also, help optimize the part design, prototype the design, create detailed blueprints for manufacturing and even design the injection mold tools that will produce the parts in mass. After the design is started, I collect all information to assist with the part designing process. I create the preliminary part design then work with the customers to make any adjustments that may be needed. Through this time I 3d print prototypes if needed to send to the client. We then have a final review to make sure the design is functioning and cost effective for manufacturing processes. Once the design is approved, I can design the injection mold tool if needed. I can help to source manufacturing and offer consulting for any questions through the entire process. For some customers I program the CNC mills and lathes in order to produce every component needed to make the parts or injection mold tools. At my full time job I work doing all of the same things from above, We design parts, and injection molds, build the molds then run them all in house. After the first run we verify all dimensions are within tolerance make any changes needed then start production. I have designed many molds that are being used for 5-10 year+ contracts making automotive parts, aerospace, military and defense, government contracts, medical etc. I have 15 years of experience in 3d modeling, concept design, part design, 3d printing and rapid prototyping, CNC programming and much more. I'm proficient in Solidworks, AutoCAD, Camworks, Fusion 360, Inventor and many other programs used to design parts.
