I bridge the gap between rigorous engineering physics and fast-paced product development. As a PhD Mechanical Engineer and startup founder, I offer a rare combination of deep theoretical knowledge and practical, hands-on building experience. I don't just design parts in CAD. I engineer complete systems by handling the mechanical design, optical integration, thermal analysis, and the Python code that makes it all run. Whether you need to design a rugged sensor enclosure, automate a testing setup, or model a complex physical system, I bring the "Founder’s Mindset" to your project. I prioritize robust, manufacturable solutions that fit your timeline and budget. My Multi-Disciplinary Expertise: 1. Mechanical Engineering & DFM I take concepts from napkin sketches to mass production. My designs are built for the real world, not just the computer screen. Tools: Expert in SolidWorks and Fusion 360. Capabilities: Design for Manufacturing (CNC, Injection Molding, 3D Printing), GD&T, and complex assembly management. Experience: Engineered high-pressure sensor housings (10,000 psi / 250°C) and solar concentrator modules that survive outdoor elements for 20+ years. 2. Optomechanics & Precision Instrumentation: If your product involves light, lasers, or sensors, I am the specialist you need. I understand how mechanical stress affects optical performance. Experience: Designed and built a sub-micron alignment workstation for fiber-to-chip attachment using high-power CO2 lasers. R&D: Developed novel photonic sensors (published in Seismological Research Letters and Applied Optics), proving my ability to develop and handle extremely sensitive instrumentation. 3. Engineering Computation (Python & FEA) I use code and simulations to validate hardware. I rely on calculation rather than guesswork. Simulation: Advanced Finite Element Analysis (ANSYS/COMSOL) for thermal, structural, ray/wave optics and multiphysics problems. Python: Proficient in NumPy, SciPy, and Pandas for data analysis and physics-based modeling. Automation: I build custom GUIs (Tkinter) to interface with hardware and automate data acquisition. Why Clients Trust Me: I have built my own company: As a founder in the renewable energy sector, I treat your capital with the same respect I treat my own. I focus on viable, scalable engineering. I solve the "Hard" problems: I specialize in projects where standard engineering isn't enough, such as those involving extreme temperatures, high pressures, and sub-micron tolerances. Optical engineering | Lens design | Optical system design I worked as an optical engineer in the semiconductor industry for five years, focusing on the design and development of optical systems spanning the UV to NIR range, with a specialization in photoluminescent imaging and optical metrology. Recently, I relocated to Sydney, Australia, to pursue a PhD in astronomical optical instrumentation. Over the past 7+ years, I have gained extensive experience in optical design (including Zemax OpticStudio and scripting) and hands-on lab work from proof of concept, through design and tolerancing, to product delivery. My skillset includes optical system and lens design, microscopy, lab prototyping, optical metrology, Python programming, and working with lasers.

I am a computational physicist (PhD and postdoc in computational photonics) with extensive experience of solving physical/mathematical problems in both academia and industry. The following provides a summary of the work I have done: 1) Computational simulations of physical systems. This involved electromagnetics, electro and magnetostatics, current flow in ionic cells (dc and ac), diffusion, structural mechanics and charged particle tracing. 2) Optical system design and analysis. I specialize in optics so this topic has been a recurring part of my work. Particular examples include Fourier optics, gaussian beam propagation and aberration analysis. 3) Machine learning, mathematical optimization and signal processing. Physical problems in products naturally overlap with concepts in mathematical modelling. I have used signal processing, machine learning and nonlinear optimization and filtering methods for both 1D and 2D data. 4) I began my journey as an electrical engineer. I am familiar with electrical systems and have hands on experience of programming microcontrollers and FPGAs. As for tools, I am an advanced user of Comsol Multiphysics and opensource FEM code FeniCS. For scientific programming, I have extensively used Matlab, Python and Julia.

I'm a full time optical design consultant with more than 14 years of experience. Most of my past and current projects are utilizing lasers, but imaging optics, spectroscopy and illumination design are often a topic too. Examples of laser projects: laser cutting, 3D printing metal and resin, laser illumination, micromachining, LIDAR, laser welding, laser scanning, laser beam shaping, laser cleaning, Bessel beams, OCT, nonlinear microscopy, fiber DPSS and gas lasers .. and a lot more. In addition to lasers I worked on a wide range of projects including design of Imaging Optics (eyepieces, f-theta objectives, camera lenses with up to 7 lens elements, image relay systems, SWIR objectives) and Spectroscopy (high resolution or compact spectrometers from UV to NIR, hyperspectral and multispectral imaging). Illumination Design is often a topic too. I designed optics for automotive interior and exterior lighting, medical and dental headlights, UV disinfection devices, long range spotlights, projectors. I have a little laboratory where I can also build physical prototypes after the virtual prototyping (optical simulation) is done. The lab features a laminar flow cabinet, spectrometer, general purpose optomechanics, power supplies, laser and LED sources, 3D printer, UV cure and bonding supplies, laser cutter/engraver, oscilloscope, multimeter, soldering station, cameras and lenses, light microscope, SWIR camera.. and more. Regarding the optical design and simulation tools I use FRED (Photon Engineering), Quadoa and Zemax (only if absolutely necessary). Both of the first too are capable of importing and exporting Zemax OpticStudio, Code V, OSLO and CAD compatible formats. FRED is an excellent tool to model non-sequential (non-imaging) systems and coherent laser beams. For modeling stray light analysis and scattering this is the best tool on the market. Quadoa is used for imaging optical design, relatively new but exceptionally innovative optical design software. I have a range of software tools which I'm skilled at and can come handy during the project. Couple of examples: CAD modeling (Shapr3D), data analysis and manipulation (Matlab, WolframAlpha), design guidelines and calculators (MS Excel with VBA). A typical project takes 20-100 hours of work. General consultations will take less and larger projects including prototype builds will take more. I run the DIY-Optics website and have a company in Switzerland which can support your project in many ways: optical an mechanical engineering, prototype builds and tests. If your project deals with light, I'm sure I can help you finding a solution.
