BOOK PRODUCTION DESIGNER NEEDED – REFINE AND FINALIZE EXISTING FAMILY BIOGRAPHY Project Summary I am seeking an experienced book production designer to refine, finalize, and prepare a family biography for commercial printing. This is not a project requiring a new design concept. The book has already been designed and laid out. I have both PDF and Word versions, an existing cover design, all photographs and illustrations, and a detailed list of approximately 65 revisions. The book is approximately 108 pages, 8.5" x 11", and combines narrative text, photographs, and illustrations. I am looking for someone who is highly detail-oriented, comfortable working from an established layout, and experienced preparing files for commercial printing. Scope of Work • Review existing book files and revision notes • Implement approximately 65 documented revisions • Maintain the existing layout and design direction • Refine typography, spacing, image placement, and consistency where needed • Update and polish the existing cover design • Prepare print-ready files for a commercial printer • Coordinate with the printer if technical adjustments are required • Deliver all source files and final production assets Materials Provided • Existing PDF layout • Existing Word manuscript • Existing cover design • All photographs and illustrations • Revision notes embedded in files • Separate revision document detailing requested changes Project Requirements • Preserve the current design and visual structure • No major redesigns or creative reinterpretation • Strong attention to detail • Experience with books containing photographs and illustrations • Experience preparing files for commercial printing • Ability to work collaboratively through multiple review rounds Deliverables • Final print-ready interior PDF • Final print-ready cover PDF • Source design files • Packaged production files • Printer-ready assets suitable for commercial printing • Technical revisions required by the printer, if any Milestone 1 – File Review and Production Plan (15%) Review all materials, revision notes, and production requirements. Deliverables: • Complete project review • Confirm workflow and timeline • Identify any production concerns • Establish revision tracking process Milestone 2 – Interior Book Revisions (40%) Implement all interior revisions and provide updated proof. Deliverables: • Updated 108-page interior layout • All documented revisions incorporated • Interior proof for review Milestone 3 – Cover Refinement and Final Proof (25%) Finalize cover and address review comments. Deliverables: • Updated cover files • Revised interior files • Final proof package ready for approval Milestone 4 – Production Package and Printer Support (20%) Prepare final production files and support printer submission. Deliverables: • Print-ready interior PDF • Print-ready cover PDF • Source files • Packaged assets • Reasonable printer-related technical corrections if requested during prepress review Budget Fixed-price project: approximately $700.
