Fractional Integration Engineer (ongoing)

Title: Fractional Backend Engineer Needed to Own 3rd-Party API Integrations Overview We’re looking for a strong fractional engineer to help own and scale our API integrations with third-party platforms. This role is ideal for a backend-leaning engineer who is comfortable working independently, reading API documentation, designing durable integration patterns, and moving quickly from requirements to production-ready implementation. The workflow will be dependent on new customer onboarding, and is unlikely to be consistent however opportunity is long-term. You’ll be responsible for helping us connect our product to external platforms, manage authentication flows, handle data ingestion and synchronization, and ensure integrations are reliable, well-documented, and maintainable. What You’ll Do Own API integrations with third-party platforms from discovery through implementation Review external API documentation and recommend the best integration approach Build, test, and maintain backend services that connect to external systems Implement authentication flows, including OAuth, API keys, webhooks, and token refresh logic Design data mapping, ingestion, sync, and error-handling workflows Build reliable retry, logging, and monitoring patterns for integrations Debug API issues, edge cases, rate limits, and data inconsistencies Document integration architecture, assumptions, setup steps, and known limitations Work directly with the founder/product lead to prioritize integrations and tradeoffs Ideal Background Strong backend engineering experience Experience building and maintaining third-party API integrations Comfortable working with REST APIs, webhooks, OAuth, JSON, rate limits, and async jobs Experience with Node.js, TypeScript, Python, or similar backend stacks Familiarity with cloud infrastructure and modern backend architecture Ability to work independently and communicate clearly Strong attention to detail, especially around data accuracy and reliability Startup experience preferred Nice to Have Experience integrating with sports, ticketing, calendar, CRM, marketing, media, or commerce platforms Experience with calendar APIs, event data, or scheduling systems Experience with AI-assisted development workflows Experience setting up monitoring, logging, and integration health dashboards Engagement Structure This is a fractional role, likely starting at 10–20 hours per week, with the opportunity for ongoing work if the fit is strong. We’re looking for someone who can own outcomes, not just complete assigned tickets.
