Industrial Designer for Children's Electronics

I'm the founder of an early-stage consumer electronics startup targeting children ages 5–10. The product is a purpose-built handheld device — no screen, LED matrix display, two physical buttons, haptic feedback, and audio. The hardware engineer is already engaged. I need an industrial designer to own everything the child sees and touches. Design direction: hard-shell unit with interchangeable snap-on covers and a strap attachment point. Clean, geometric, intentional. What you'll design: - Hard ABS/PC-ABS outer shell, palm-sized (~90x60x18mm) - Interchangeable cover system (snap-fit or rail, parent-swappable) - Strap lug or loop on rear/side for lanyard or wrist strap - Two large front-face buttons — tactilely distinct from each other - LED matrix window with frosted PC diffuser — the hero element - CMF spec: 3 color SKUs, material callouts, surface finish - DFM-ready 3D CAD (STEP) for injection mold quoting at ~500 units What's out of scope: PCB/electronics, strap, app UI. Two hard handoff dates to the hardware engineer: week 4 (preliminary mechanicals) and week 8 (final CAD). Missing these delays PCB layout and risks a hard launch date — timeline discipline is non-negotiable. Full product brief shared after NDA. Fixed-price, milestone-based.
