Mechanical Design Engineer for Medical Device Mechanism Development

We are seeking an experienced mechanical design engineer to support the early-stage development of a compact actuation mechanism for a medical device. The project will involve evaluating mechanical concepts, developing preliminary designs, and supporting prototype development and feasibility testing. The mechanism must provide reliable, repeatable operation within a compact device configuration. Responsibilities may include: Develop and compare mechanical actuation concepts Translate functional requirements into practical mechanical designs Perform basic force, motion, tolerance, and component-sizing analyses Create 3D CAD models, assemblies, and engineering drawings Identify commercially available components where appropriate Design prototype components for machining or additive manufacturing Support prototype assembly, testing, and iterative design improvements Consider usability, manufacturability, reliability, safety, and cost Document design assumptions, decisions, risks, and recommendations Preferred qualifications: Degree in mechanical engineering, industrial design, biomedical engineering, or a related field Experience designing compact mechanical mechanisms Experience with actuation systems, latches, triggers, springs, linkages, or similar mechanisms Medical device development experience is highly desirable Strong proficiency with SolidWorks or comparable CAD software Experience developing and testing functional prototypes Familiarity with design for manufacturing and assembly Experience working in a regulated product-development environment is preferred The initial scope will focus on concept development and feasibility. Additional work may include detailed design, prototyping, testing, and design refinement.
