Summary

We’re looking for a talented Ruby on Rails developer to join our team in a flexible capacity and help us build, improve, and scale modern web applications using the current Rails ecosystem. This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to start with a flexible arrangement while contributing to meaningful product work, with the potential to grow into a larger, long-term or full-time role as the relationship, workload, and product needs develop. We’re not looking for someone to simply patch old code and disappear. We’re looking for a developer who genuinely enjoys Rails as a full-stack framework and knows how to build clean, fast, maintainable applications using modern Rails tools like Hotwire, Turbo, Stimulus, Action Cable, Active Job, PostgreSQL, and modern deployment workflows. The ideal candidate can take ownership of features, communicate clearly, and make smart technical decisions without overcomplicating things. You should be comfortable working across the full stack, from data modeling and Rails conventions to server-rendered views, Turbo-powered interactions, background jobs, testing, performance, and deployment. You’ll help us build and improve real product features across our Rails applications, including user-facing workflows, internal dashboards, admin tools, reporting features, background processing, API integrations, and performance improvements. A typical project might involve creating a new Rails feature from the database migration up through the user interface, using Turbo Frames and Turbo Streams for smooth interactions, adding Stimulus controllers where JavaScript is actually needed, writing practical tests, reviewing edge cases, and helping ship the feature cleanly. Responsibilities include building and maintaining features in modern Ruby on Rails applications, using Hotwire, Turbo Frames, Turbo Streams, and Stimulus to create fast and interactive user experiences, writing clean and idiomatic Rails code, working with PostgreSQL and Active Record, improving performance, reducing N+1 queries, integrating third-party APIs and webhooks, implementing background processing, and helping maintain a simple, readable, and scalable codebase. We’re especially interested in someone who has real experience with modern Rails development, including Rails 7 or Rails 8 conventions, Hotwire, Turbo, Stimulus, server-rendered HTML, PostgreSQL, Git, code reviews, testing, and production debugging. You should understand when to use JavaScript and when Rails can handle the experience more simply and cleanly. Experience with tools and patterns like ViewComponent, Phlex, Tailwind CSS, Importmaps, Propshaft, Kamal, Docker, Solid Queue, Solid Cache, Solid Cable, Action Cable, Sidekiq, GoodJob, Devise, Pundit, Stripe, webhooks, and transactional email is a strong plus. We value developers who like Rails for the right reasons: simple architecture, durable code, fast server-rendered experiences, thoughtful use of JavaScript, and the ability to ship polished product features without unnecessary complexity. This role can begin with a focused project-based or flexible weekly commitment, but there is real potential for it to grow into a larger ongoing role or full-time position for the right person. We care about reliability, thoughtful problem-solving, clear communication, and strong product instincts. If you’re a Rails developer who enjoys Hotwire, Turbo, Stimulus, PostgreSQL, clean architecture, practical product work, and building high-quality web applications, we’d love to connect.
