OpenMetadata Environment Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented OpenMetadata Environment Specialist to join our team on a part-time basis. In this role, you will bridge the gap between technical implementation and strategic project management. You will be responsible for the end-to-end management of our OpenMetadata environment, ensuring it remains performant, well-governed, and aligned with our data architecture goals. The ideal candidate possesses deep technical expertise in OpenMetadata deployment and configuration, coupled with the organizational skills to manage related tasks, documentation, and operational workflows effectively. Key Responsibilities Technical Implementation & Governance Environment Configuration: Lead the installation, configuration, and ongoing maintenance of the OpenMetadata platform. Ingestion Pipelines: Design, deploy, and monitor metadata ingestion pipelines (connectors) to ensure seamless integration across our data ecosystem (databases, warehouses, BI tools, etc.). Governance Framework: Configure and maintain governance workflows, including data quality policies, tagging schemas, glossary definitions, and ownership structures. Architecture Optimization: Provide expert recommendations on platform scaling, security configurations, and integration architecture to ensure long-term sustainability. Project Management & Operations Task Management: Proactively manage your project roadmap, prioritizing tasks based on business needs and technical dependencies. Operational Excellence: Develop and maintain comprehensive operational runbooks to ensure high availability and standard troubleshooting procedures for the team. Documentation: Create and update internal knowledge bases, including architecture diagrams, configuration guides, and user documentation. Reporting: Provide periodic status updates on environment health, ingestion success rates, and governance compliance metrics. Required Qualifications Experience: 3+ years of experience in data engineering, data governance, or platform administration. OpenMetadata Expertise: Proven hands-on experience with OpenMetadata setup, ingestion workflows (Python SDK/Ingestion Framework), and API integration. Technical Proficiencies: Strong knowledge of SQL, Python, and JSON. Experience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and cloud infrastructure (AWS/GCP/Azure). Understanding of data catalogs, lineage, and data modeling concepts. Project Management Skills: Demonstrated ability to manage technical projects, track deliverables, and communicate progress to stakeholders. Documentation Skills: Ability to translate complex technical configurations into clear, actionable, and user-friendly documentation. Preferred Qualifications Experience with Infrastructure as Code Prior experience in a consulting or cross-functional team environment. Familiarity with data quality tools Note to Candidates: This is a part-time role. We are looking for someone who can operate autonomously, identify potential bottlenecks before they arise, and act as a subject matter expert to guide our data governance initiatives.
