Professional Book Proofreader Needed (197-Page Nonfiction)

We are seeking an experienced proofreader for a completed 197-page nonfiction book on dog training. We are looking for someone who believes consistency matters. The manuscript is fully written, professionally laid out, and includes a table of contents, glossary, and all front and back matter. This is the final stage before publication. We are not looking for a writer or copy editor. The manuscript has already been written and is ready for a meticulous proofreading pass. Responsibilities • Correct spelling, grammar, and punctuation errors • Ensure consistency in punctuation, capitalization, hyphenation, and formatting • Identify typographical errors • Verify consistency in headings, chapter titles, and page references • Check the table of contents and glossary for accuracy • Flag any duplicated or missing words • Preserve the author’s voice and wording whenever possible Deliverables • Microsoft Word file using Track Changes • Clean copy with all changes accepted • Brief list of any recurring issues or questions Requirements • Native-level American English • Experience proofreading published nonfiction books • Excellent attention to detail • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Track Changes • Familiarity with Chicago Manual of Style preferred To Apply Please include: • Examples of books you’ve proofread • Number of published books you’ve worked on • Your turnaround time • Your fixed-price quote A paid 3–5 page proofreading test will be required before hiring.
