WordPress Specialist for a Multilingual Webzine
Worldwide
We are looking for an experienced WordPress specialist to complete two specific tasks for an established metal web radio and multilingual webzine: 1. Identify and safely block problematic bot traffic affecting the website. 2. Check the website thoroughly and confirm that all important functions are working correctly. The website is hosted on Nexcess and uses WordPress and paid GTranslate SEO/TDN. The developer will need to: - Examine server logs and identify suspicious bot or crawler activity. - Block harmful bots without affecting Googlebot, Bingbot, Meta/Facebook traffic, Google Ads traffic or legitimate visitors. - Check whether automated traffic is causing excessive CPU, memory, PHP or database usage. - Verify that the main website and all translated versions load and work correctly. - Test the homepage, articles, radio player, WordPress admin area, images, menus, links, scripts and contact forms. - Check for 403, 404, 429, 500, 502, 503, 504 and timeout errors. - Review WordPress plugins, scheduled tasks and security settings for problems. - Confirm that the website works correctly on desktop and mobile. - Provide a written report explaining what was found, what was fixed or changed, and whether any further work is recommended. No changes should be made to the database, content, translations, SEO settings, DNS, CDN or hosting configuration without prior approval. No unnecessary plugins should be installed, and every change must be documented. What to include in your proposal - Relevant experience with WordPress troubleshooting, bot traffic/log analysis, Nexcess, Cloudflare, and multilingual sites (GTranslate experience a strong plus) - Briefly describe a similar bot-mitigation or site-stabilization project you've handled - Your proposed approach to diagnosing the bot traffic before making changes - Availability to start, estimated timeline, and your general availability for ongoing work afterward - Confirm you're open to a long-term working relationship if this initial project goes well Scope clarification: This project is not limited to an audit or a report. The selected developer will be expected to identify and implement the necessary fixes for issues directly related to: harmful bot or crawler traffic, Cloudflare, firewall, caching or rate-limiting rules, paid GTranslate SEO/TDN, translated URLs and language versions, website functions listed in the project description, related 4xx, 5xx and timeout errors, plugin, cron, PHP, database or server-resource issues directly connected to the above. The work must include investigation, implementation of the agreed fixes, functional testing across the main site and translated versions, and a final written report. Completely unrelated issues, major redevelopment, redesign or new functionality are not included unless separately agreed. No changes may be made without prior approval, and every change must be documented.
