Senior Backend Engineer

Senior Backend Engineer (Python / GCP / AI) We're looking for a senior backend engineer to help build and scale a cloud-native AI platform. You'll work across the full backend stack—from database schema design to cloud infrastructure—shipping production systems that combine distributed services, AI, and large-scale document processing. --- ## What You'll Build - AI agent and chat systems with streaming responses (SSE) - Document ingestion and processing pipelines (OCR, metadata extraction, clause analysis) - LLM integrations using Google Vertex AI (Gemini) - Cloud-native microservices on Google Cloud Platform - PostgreSQL data models, migrations, and async repositories - CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation - Production reliability improvements, monitoring, and debugging --- ## Required Qualifications - 7+ years of backend engineering experience building production systems - Strong Python experience (FastAPI, Pydantic, SQLAlchemy, asyncio) - Deep PostgreSQL knowledge, including schema design, migrations, and performance optimization - Strong Google Cloud Platform experience: - Cloud Run - Pub/Sub - Cloud Build - Cloud Storage - IAM - KMS - Terraform experience managing multi-environment infrastructure - Docker and containerized microservices - Experience with event-driven architectures and distributed systems - Experience integrating LLM APIs into production applications - Strong written and spoken English Startup experience is highly preferred. --- ## Nice to Have - PaddleOCR, Google Vision API, or similar OCR systems - Redis - pgvector / vector databases - Feature flag systems (Unleash or similar) - Document processing or legal tech experience - Bash scripting --- ## Our Tech Stack - Python 3.12 - FastAPI - PostgreSQL (AlloyDB) - SQLAlchemy 2.0 - Alembic - Redis - Google Vertex AI (Gemini) - Google Vision - PaddleOCR - Google Cloud Platform - Cloud Run - Pub/Sub - Cloud Build - GCS - Terraform - GitHub Actions - Unleash --- ## What We're Looking For We're looking for someone who: - Takes ownership from design through production deployment - Thinks about reliability, scalability, and maintainability - Ships quickly and iterates pragmatically - Is comfortable working independently with minimal supervision - Enjoys building AI-powered systems using modern cloud infrastructure If you've built production backend systems, enjoy solving difficult infrastructure problems, and like working at the intersection of distributed systems and AI, we'd love to hear from you.
