Summary

PLEASE READ BEFORE APPLYING To be considered, your application must include a proposal for the actual first project below. We are intentionally using a real development project instead of requesting generic portfolios so we can evaluate how you analyze requirements, communicate your approach, and estimate development work. Generic proposals that do not address the sample project will not be considered. This is an hourly position through Upwork. • Maximum hourly rate: $12 USD/hour. Applications requesting a higher hourly rate will not be considered. • Upwork Time Tracker is required for all approved work. ABOUT THE POSITION We are looking for a dependable WordPress developer to work with our lead developer, Anthony, on an ongoing freelance basis. Our work primarily involves custom WordPress development, extending existing plugins, and adding new functionality to established applications. We are looking for someone interested in building a long-term working relationship. REQUIRED SKILLS You should be comfortable with: • WordPress development • PHP • JavaScript • HTML/CSS • MySQL • Customizing and extending third-party WordPress plugins • Debugging and working within existing codebases Experience with Directorist is a plus but is not required. HOW WE WORK Projects are assigned individually. For each project, we ask that you: • Review the requirements. • Explain your proposed implementation. • Identify any concerns or recommendations. • Ask questions if anything is unclear. • Provide the maximum number of hours you believe the project will require. Anthony will review each proposal before development begins. If additional time becomes necessary, approval must be received before exceeding the approved number of hours. AI USAGE We have no objection to developers using AI as part of their workflow. In fact, we expect many developers to use it for research, debugging, documentation, and code assistance. However, we expect every developer to understand, review, test, and take full responsibility for any code they submit. ================================================== APPLICATION PROJECT (REQUIRED) Every applicant must submit a proposal for the following project. Project: Improve the "Report an Issue" System Current Setup The site uses the Directorist plugin. Each listing currently includes a report button that originated from Directorist's "Report Abuse" feature. Some visible wording has already been changed, but the popup, emails, notifications, or other parts of the reporting process may still reference abuse. This directory is not primarily dealing with abusive content. Users will normally use this feature to report outdated or incorrect listing information. Required Changes Update the Report Form Change the popup title from "Report A Problem" to "Report an Issue." Replace the current field instruction with: "Please describe the issue in as much detail as possible." Add a dropdown containing the following report types: • The prophet's chamber is closed • The phone number is incorrect • The address is incorrect • The church no longer offers housing • The amenities are inaccurate • The listing is duplicated • A photo is incorrect • Other outdated information The user should still be able to provide a written explanation. Remove "Abuse" Language Review the complete reporting process, including the popup, confirmation messages, emails, and administrative notifications. Use neutral language such as: • Report an Issue • Describe the Issue • A User Has Reported an Issue Remove wording such as: • Report Abuse • Abuse Reported • You Reported Abuse Administrative Email Verify that report emails are sent only to administrators or the designated administrative email address. The email should include: • Listing name • Direct link to the listing • Selected report type • Reporting user's name • Reporting user's email address • User's written explanation • Date and time of the report Please verify whether the reporting user currently receives an email. We do not want users receiving an email stating that they reported abuse. User Confirmation After submission, display the following confirmation message: "Thank you. Your report has been sent to the team for review." WHAT TO INCLUDE WITH YOUR APPLICATION Please submit only the following: Your proposed technical approach. Whether you would modify the existing Directorist functionality or replace part of it. Any questions, concerns, or recommendations. The maximum number of hours you believe this project will require. Your hourly rate (maximum $12/hour). Your availability and time zone. We are looking for developers who communicate clearly, provide realistic estimates, write maintainable code, and are interested in building a long-term working relationship. Applications that do not address the sample project, exceed the hourly rate, or consist primarily of generic cover letters or lists of programming languages will not be considered.
